Any body have a preferrence on using programmer or old school shift kit on 4L60 E in 94 C4 . Trans Go says kit is better and Hyper Tech says they are because it is reversible . HELP !!!
:seeya :auto: :steering:
Shift kit wins hands down. The hypertech does firm up the shifts...some. The shift brings the tranny to life!
The idea that it is reversible with the Hypertech is a moot point really, for once you experience what the shift kit will do for your tranny, you will never consider going back to slush-box shifts.
Hey, I could be wrong on this, but the one thing the Hypertech, or programming will do that the shift kit wont, is change your WOT shift points. The E version transmission is controlled off of the computer and not a govenor like the non E versions. In additon to the shift points, it will give you the ability to reset the speedometer in time if you change gear ratios, let you turn the fans on sooner so you can run a 160 t-stat etc. Not saying which is best for your situation, just giving some other info to consider.
I put the B&M shift kit in my 94. There is little difference while driving easy, but shifts firmer at hard throttle and WOT. I have heard a lot of people here says they love the Trans-go kit.
Don't laugh. It works. It is truly reversable. In fact you can turn it on or off depending on how you want to drive. There are three settings, off, firm and very firm. I leave it off most of the time unless I want to "have some fun".
I don't know if it's because I have the mechanicle and electronic kits, but this little beauty kicks ars!!! If I had to do it all over again I would just get the electronic shift improver.
Search around for pricing. I got mine at Autobarn.
Hypertec programmer changes the shift and lock-up points that will let you better match your transmission to the engine's powerband. Since the stock program is designed more for emissions rather than performance you will notice a difference in performance.
The Trans-go shift kit modifies the valve body to increase and redirect oil flow and pressure to different parts of the transmission. For example, it will increase oil flow and pressure to the drums making it shift firmer. Done properly, lock-up will feel like a 5th gear. The increase pressure will increase the clutches holding power in heavy duty (race or towing) appliations.
Ideally, you should have both, but given the choice, I would vote for the shift kit if you're vette is beefed up or you drive it very hard. A shift kit can actually make your transmission last longer. the firmer shift means less slippage during clutch engagement..
