Code 36 When Started Cold
I get a code 36 when I start the car after it sits overnight. After the '89 runs for a while I can turn it off, disconnect the ground from the battery and it will clear the code. Then I can start it up and everything is fine even if I drive for a couple of hours. After I park it and it sits overnight the Service Engine light comes on and when I check it it is a code 36 again. Any opinions on if it is MAF sensor or ECM problem. Seems like it is saying I don't get enough air on start up. Thanks for your opinions.

The MAF burn off relays have a high failure rate. Replace it , its not expensive(GM p/n 14089936). What happens is small contaminates get stuck on the MAF sensing wire while your driving. When the ignition is turned off, the relay energizes and the sensing wire gets hot enough to "burn off" the contaminates. If this "burn off" cycle does not occur when you turn off the car after driving, the ECM will set a code 36 the next time the engine starts.

It's cheap enough to go ahead and replace it.
That said, I cleaned the points on a similar relay(bose amp), and it's worked great since :jester
