I'll go to dyno soon and I'm interested in how is
it performed with auto trans.
I know that with manual trans you just go slowly in first
three gears and nail it in fourth, but if you do that with automatic
it will downshift.
Guess you could manually shift it. Once you hit 3rd gear then smoothly apply power. I would assume you don't want the OD to kick in on the dyno so you wouldn't shift out of "D" into "OD".
Here's what I did...find a long stretch of road...take your car out and put it in 3rd...hold it at say 55 mph and then floor it...if the tranny downshifts start over and try flooring it from say 57 mph...I did this till I knew it wouldn't downshift...on my car it was at 54 mph... when I went to the dyno I told the guy to floor it in 3rd at exactly 56 mph so it would not downshift...worked for me...btw, do NOT let the dyno guy disconnect the TV cable!!!!!.... they like to do that but you are begging for tranny problems if they do... good luck
Indeed with an A4 the pull cannot start till above the 3-2 down shift point.
On both of my dyno sessions (on my site) an experienced operator took it up to about 3,300rpm in 3rd gear and then went to WOT, to avoid that 3-2 down shift.
BTW, with the high output pump and shift kit in my rebuilt A4 you can realy feel the TC lockup at about 125mph. In fact the operator thought it was up shifting into 4th gear.
