Anyways, I can't seem to even get a visual on the starter so I can short out the selenoid to see if the starter tries to crank. How can I get access to the starter without a lift? Also what else can I check? I am almost positive this is NOT a VATS problem. That would be way too much of a coincidense. I just put a brand new Die Hard gold in two days ago. Starter turned real slow, or would sometimes crank slow and stop during cranking before two days ago. Did the same thing after changing the battery. But I still drove the car home after the battery install. I come out the next day, and car does nothing, and no lights dimming either. Lights are radio are working as if there is no drain while I try to start it. Another thing is I think maybe I hear one slight click when I turn key to starting position, but it is just one click, and it is kinda hard to hear. I can hear other relays engage when I turn key, and I can also hear fuel system kick on, like normal when I turn key to get ready and start. Any ideas from you guys will greatly help me get my babe on the road again. Thanks guys!

Check all your ground points. Can't hurt to check the positive starter connections too.
It sounds like your starter is unable to get the amount of current it wants.
Do you have a G.M. shop manual ??

No lift? if you're going to work on the starter-or install your new headers it's time to get some ramps  What you're describing it sounds like either the starter or starter solenoid is shot-try this-using something like a pipe tap on the starter from above-I know it's hard, but I did it, and everytime mine would start right up-finally got a new starter and vroooooom,it starts great. There is one company that builds a starter for vettes with a different confiquration to avoid heat problems. It was brought up on one of the past threads, you'll have to look for it.

Yeah, I have the GM manual. Everything pretty much points to the starter. I had a faulty volt meter too, but I just bought a new one at Sears yesterday. I will have to run some more tests. Thanks!

Sorry man. I must have hit the page down button a little bit to fast. I will try taping on the starter today, if I can get in there. Something else that I have thought about is those selinoid relocation setups. If my selinoid is bad, would adding one of those kits work? Or would you recommend I just buy a new starter? Thanks man!
Re: Update to my starting problem. HELP!! (darkman5001)
VATS issues=SECURITY light staying on when trying to start rather than flashing.
My problem, bad ECM. It produced random problems in starting.
Your problem sounds like a starter. But you need to jump it. Jack it up and put jack stands on it. Put it up on ramps. The starter is easy to get to once you get it up. Just make sure you use ramps or a jack stand. Don't rely on a jack to hold the car. I know a couple of people who are dead due to using jacks only.
Once you get under there. check for a loose wire on the the starter. What are the voltage readings???

Well, I tried to tap on it with a hammer by reaching under the passenger side door. It did not have any effect. I tried tapping it 3 different times with a hammer and then starting and nothing. :banghead:

The security light blinks until I turn the key to the on position, then it goes out. I think that means that VATS and ECM is okay.
Re: Update to my starting problem. HELP!! (darkman5001)
Darkman, I suppose you have checked out your battery cables and connections. A leaking battery terminal can let acid run down inside the insulation of the cable and corrode it and cause similar problems as you describe. Poor ground also does the same thing. Check the inexpensive things first. Then if all is OK check the starter.
