Heater/AC Here we go again!!!
There is no possible way for me to get to that screw on the side thats closest to the drivers side. There is a ton of wiring and stuff in the way.
Is there another way to get at this? I know you said remove some stuff, but I'm not sure on the technical meanings.
If you could give me a bit of a walkthrough, I'd be glad to listen. I can't survive a midwestern summer without some A/C.
Another question, is this covered in the Helms Service Manual? I've been thinking about picking one of those up, and if this is in there, it will push me that much further!
SunCr: Thanks for the patience and help, it's much appreciated!
That is just held in with 2 bolts near the bottom right? Right next to the Temp Door motor?
I'm going to take whatever that is out anyways, since it's a pain. I'm trying not to take apart the whole upper dash, just the lower :) So, I'm going to go remove the ECM and take out the temp door motor.
Thank you for all of your help. You have helped me in more ways than one!! I've been trying to fix this problem since last summer. I was actually searching the archives and I was hoping I would get a chance to talk to you, you knew what you were talking about. Much appreciated!!! :D
I got the ECM out, got the motor out and viola, there's the broken threaded plastic clip. Broken right in two!
Looks like I'll be making a trip down to GM tomorrow and hopefully they won't have to order it. Looks like I'll be getting up bright and early!
Is there anyway I can test the motor to make sure that isnt bad before I go putting this all back together.
And for future reference for others this is how I attacked this PITA:
1) Removed the passenger side seat. Four bolts on each corner. Disconnect the harness underneath the seat, and remove the entire seat. This makes for easier laying underneath the dash.
2) Removed the passenger side hush panel (panel with the interior light attached to it). 3 or 4 7mm screws.
3) Disconnect the wiring harness to the temp door motor.
4) Removed the ECM. 2 10mm bolts/screws, one in each corner on the bottom. Wiggled the ECM out.
5) Removed Temp door motor. 2 7mm screws, a bit difficult to get too at first.
6) Tested the door with the rod by hand. Moves fine. Noticed the broken white threaded plastic peice on top.
7) Go to GM and buy the plastic clip.
8) Put the SOB back together!
Question is, now that I've gotten this far, do I go ahead and go for the heater core since it has 127,000 and I don't know if it has ever been replaced?
Another question, I'm pretty sure my ECM has been changed. Is this something I should be aware of in the future? I bought this car with 85,000 on it. The ECM has a sticker that says: "Remanufactured by General Motors" So that must mean it's been replaced.
Thank you for everything, this forum rocks!!
SunCr, I'm trying to instant message you.
