After driving my car around on a warmer day,, I shut the car off to go into a store, come back out and I get 3 or 4 slow cranks then click click. starts fine anyother time, had the batter checked and said it was OK.
This same thing happened last summer, I walked home to get my jumper cables ,, when I whent back it started right up with out a jump [probly 25 minutes later]
What are some ideas on this,,, could the pre Cats be over heating the starter ? or battery ?
the car is a 1990 Auto. 50,000 miles,, very few light mods like K+N, Cut Lid, 160 stat and Fan switch.
Every thing is tight and clean,, the car has sat since last thursday, I went out today and started and restarted it 10 times with out any problems.
Any other sujestion?
I had this problem. Came down to two issues: Fuel pump and leaking injectors. I had the injectors R&R'd by Rich at Cruizin Performance, and then replaced the fuel pump. Big difference. And it cost less than $200 for everything.
I have an '84 crossfire with the same problem. I changed a plenum gasket, vacuum lines, fuel pump and filter and no change. Let me know how you make out. I really want to fix this since it just developed.

Don't be fooled; the problem didn't magically fix itself.
What comes to mind is that your problem is either heat related or connection related.
A failing starter solenoid, when hot from the exhaust heat, will give you the click-click-click.
A bad ground or 12 volt connection either at the battery or the starter solenoid - not necessarily looose but one that isn't making clean contact - will do this.
Those are the most obvious things to check.
Someone recently had a starter relay problem that caused his starting problems. He said it was behind the dash.
A bad injector or fuel pump wouldn't prevent the engine from spinning over. It may not fire, but it will spin.
