Im going to use AFR 195 heads and 1.6 rockers with comp cams R lifters. Whats the deal with adj push rods? Cant I use stock rods with this setup? When do you need to use adj push rods?
An adjustable push rod is used for determining tha actual push rod length you will need.
:iagree:
You only use and adjustable pushrod to determine what length pushrods you need to use for your setup. They are not used to run your engine with. :nono:
I would say that if you're doing a heads/cam package, you'll definitely want to make sure your valve train geometry is correct... I did when I did my top end.
If you check specs those AFR heads are heavier than your stock #113s; most of the added weight is in the base. This makes the heads sit a little higher than stock so you may indeed need longer pushrods.
Anyway, checking rockers for correct geometry is just one of the standard things to check when changing valve train components, along with springs for coil bind and proper installed height.
You don't need the adjustable pushrod to check valve train geometry. Just put a dark mark on a valve tip, rotate the engine several times and examine the work area to see if the tip of the rocker swept across the middle of the valve tip. If not, use an adjustable pushrod to determine the pushrod length required to get the even sweep.
