ROTOR AND CAP 1990
Just changed the rotor and cap and the ignition transfomer
the part that goes under the transformer and touches the center of the rotor the sponge with the spring and piece of metal it was broken would this have affected my starting and operation

Well, if I translated his post correctly he's referring to the coil (transformer); but I don't have a clue as to what the sponge is.
Oh, wait, he means spring. The high resistance bushing has a spring on it. Now it makes sense.
