Default Non-Corvette ECM tuning question

I have a '92 GMC truck with a 5.0L V8. This is SUPPOSED to run on the $42 definition. Unfortunately, I found out yesterday when I started digging into some engine problems that the truck was originally a 4.3L V6 truck with the 16144288 ECM and the $A0 definition. I know the $A0 definition and program contain a cylinder number constant. Now, in an ideal world, I should be able to simply download the existing program (it's got a Hypertech chip in it now), and modify that constant to reflect the V8 engine, and all should be peachy. However, I would not at all be surprised if there are some issues I'm not taking into account here. Anyone care to comment? Thanks in advance.

You can just change the cylinder constant to reflect the new V8. Also the timing and fuel maps will need to be changed. If you have a scan tool to watch the changes you can do this easily. The V8 should run just fine on the V6 ECM. I would read the Hypecrap chip, and use it as a starting point. You should be able to get some BINs off the GM_ECM website for a 305 or a 350. You can then see the fuel and timing maps to get a base for what you need to change.
