HELP NEEDED ASAP!!!!! COOLING PROBLEMS
My post: AWWWW F**K!!!!!! One problem after another. Got the valves pretty much set, she runs but were probably one notch off in timing. The big problem is major overheating!!!!!!!!!! My shorter belt(minus A/C) is routed just like the normal belt except it goes over the tensioner instead of under it. Put a new tstat in it on the driveway aswell, but no change. The fan is not coming on either. The only thing I can think of is that I have the correct water pump casting(number matched the old one) but whoever rebuilt it must have put the wrong impeller on it? It just doesn't seem to be pulling the coolant through the block, which I guess will leave the fan switch dry, so it won't kick in? Any ideas I'm about ready to pack it in The insurance has been on for a week now and it hasn't left the driveway!!!!

Does you fan work when jumping "A" and "B" on the aldl connector ??
Timimg can also make your car run extra hot.
With the engine idling and the coolant temp high enough for the thermostat to be open, if you remove the radiator cap can you see coolant movement?
Did re-routing the belt cause the water pump to turn in the opposite direction? If so, this would definitely effect coolant flow.
Standing directly in front of the car, looking at the engine, in which direction is the water pump turning? Clockwise or counter-clockwise?
I'm not familiar with the 84; is your coolant temp fan switch in the head? If it is, then it's constanly submerged in coolant and even if the coolant isn't moving, at some point the coolant around that switch will get hot enough to cause the switch to signal the fan to turn on.
Signally the fan to turn on and the fan actually turning on is another matter though. The switch could be working properly, but some other fault could prevent the fan from actually turning on.
Just another thought, I recall someone else installed their stat upside down which caused him to have an over-heating problem.
Hopefully some familiar with the 84 setup will chime in to help you out.
