Paxton has been installed by a few of the more well known installers, but the # of Paxton units on C4 is relativly few. The ATI kits are more well known. Early on in the C4 life, Paxton got some press.
Can't say anything bad about Paxton. They just don't have a large Mkt. (As I see it.)
My car is an 85, I figured that this charger will fit my car...Do you think it will? Also what kind of horsepower do think this charger will add to a stock L98 engine?
I would also be interested to know about how much more HP you can go reasonnably without risk or damaging the engine.
Does this kit include all the parts required for the installation?
Does any one have the ATI web site or a web site that sells one of their setups for a L98 vette?
my advice is superchargers suck. the Lt1s cant handle much boost and if you look at a stock motor internals they are a POS. Building the motor for a supercharger is what i like to hear but i would rather spend any money on heads and maybe a cam too.
Probably the most reputable name.
His super chargers have been installed on cars since 1937
He was the inventer of the first centrifigal super charger.
It's "advice"...
Anyway, unless you build the motor from the ground up for a blower, it's not gonna last. Additionally, trying to find a hacker to tune it is a nightmare in most cases. IMO, unless you are in a locale with a PROVEN shop that does the whole package with in-house dyno tuning, bag it. Most places just want to sell you the parts and installation. You're in for a rude awakining after spending huge $$$, and it's still not right.
Supercharging are way to expensive, a few hundred here and there can add up very fast. If you are not up for that. I would stay a way from it. Do head and cam is better.
Unless you want to make big hp, than again you need to rebuild your motor = more $

Re: """Supercharger advise""" (chillcat)
A paxton spooler is a very good unit.
But rigging up a supercharger is no simple bolt on thing...
With increased boost you must pay extra attention to engine seals and gaskets, and have a solid lower end to take the peak curve. Just don't go "boost crazy" and pump in more than 7lbs on a stock L98... your motor will last a few more days before the rebuild/replacement with a 4bolt motor.
It's cheaper to build a solid motor without the forced air, but to tell ya the truth, looking at them is cool, and feeling the power they put into the motor is inspiring... expensive... but insperational nevertheless.
there was another post fairly recently about this. i've heard about and seen a couple examples of supercharging engines with tearful endings. the cost of the package and installation alone is more expensive than a heads/cam/intake setup. this is WITHOUT extra buildup necessary the withstand the supercharger unit. All said & done, its more in the $6000 -$8000 range. dosen't make sense to me. as you can see, i'm not a fan of this nonsense at all. those that have done it without re-doing the bottom end have been very lucky.....so far.
I have been in a twin turbocharged RX7 that felt like being burried into the seat and not being able to move at all when accelerating. So I believe that super/turbo charging can do good things. But I have also read TPIS booklets which talk about doing many small things to get around 400hp out of the L98 natural aspiration style. I think I like the natural way best. :D
