I have an 88 with just an air foil and screens cut out of the MAS with a K&N filter that is clean. I cleaned entire throttle body and replaced the IAC and the check engine light comes on at no particular time. It hesitates for about a second of two and then is fine but the light comes on. Help please! the code is 33
Code 33 is the Maf . The first thing to check is the connection to the MAf. they are prone to corrosion and just getting dirty. Try cleaning the electrical connector under the MAf. Is it possible that you damaged the Maf when you cut out the screen?
If that doesn't do it, you will have to get more trouble shooting info. BTW, the Helms manual has all the trouble shooting info you need for just about anything. Everyone who has a vette needs one, especially if you do your own work.
I too have an 88. I went through the same trials and tribulations as you. I used the Hanes manual and test procedure (as did the GM mechanic at the shop) and it pointed to the MAF and due to the cost I did everything I could to prove it was not the MAF. Connections were cleaned, MAF was cleaned and "tapped", (I believe someone on this forum suggested that) and what it came down to I bought a new MAF and no more problem.

Re: Code 33 need help badly! (88espo)
This helped me solve a code 33 (MAF) issue on my 88.
Service Bulletin Number: 89-327-6D

NHTSA Item Number: SB028295
Make: CHEVROLET
Model: CORVETTE
Year: 1988
Component: FUEL:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM
Summary: INTERMITTENT NO START, LONG CRANK, STALL, OR ENGINE SURGE-BOTH MAF RELAYS(BURN O FF AND BURN OFF CONTROL)SHOULD BE REPLACED-1988/89 CORVETTE DG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The original relays were found to not conduct enough power for the MAF burnoff action to complete. The GM TSB recommendation was to replace the original relays with new GM part #14089936 relays. NAPA can get you 2 new matching relays for less than the dealer (about $11 each) if you give them the GM part #.
Remove the air filter assembly so that front neck of the MAF is open, have someone start the engine for a minute or so and shut if off while you look into the front of the MAF (use a mirror). If the sensor wires do not glow bright red for two seconds after the engine is shut off, replace the MAF burnoff relay.
If that is OK, replace the MAF power relay.
If the problem persists, find a substitute MAF to check out yours.
BTW, I am in W. Nyack, NY (not far from LF, NJ) and could bring by my AutoXray scanner if necessary to see how the gm/sec data from the MAF looks.

You mention you replaced IAC, but is it properly adjusted?
