It seems the smog pump on my 85 froze up, and therefore the belt burned up. So I pulled off the smog pump and tried to gut it, but I can't figure out how to get the goodies out of it, so I'm picking up a new one at NAPA in a couple hours. Isn't there a smog pump delete kit? Where would I get it and what happens if I have no smog pump?
Mine was going south and we have no emmisions inspections so I tossed it and built an eliminator bracket. Removing it really cleans up the engine bay and makes removing the valve cover that much easier. I plan on posting the specs of my bracket, but can't find the measurements I saved. Will continue to look, but will probably have to go physically remeasure the parts.
Here are a few pics to show you what I'm talking about.
that looks awesome...mine is going too,so I was looking at the eliminator kit in Mid America, but can't justify spending $180 on that...would you be interested in making another one??...if not,did you at least find those dimensions?...Dan
Removing the "goodies" from the air pump just takes a lil patience.
I used a fine tooth hacksaw blade and sawed the blades off the shaft. Then liberally re-greased the bearing and put it back together. Maybe took all of two hours start to finish but saved over $160.00 plus shipping for an eliminator kit.
I removed the air switching valves at the same time and not long after replaced the shorties with long toob Hedman hedders. All in all the engine compartment has a much cleaner appearance.
