I bought a Stage II chip on e-bay, took it to the strip and got no performance gain, sold it back on e-bay.

If you want to try one get it on e-bay for $50.

You can install an AFPR to bump fuel pressure, bump base timing and, if you have a '85-'89 L98, you can bump TPS settings for enhanced performance.

You can use a manual fan switch or an aux fan switch to bring them on earlier.

I bought mine only for the rear ratio swap. The performance has not changed.

Hypertech chips do something, I just don't know what. The reason I say that is because after my rebuild with cam and head work, the stock chip couldn't keep the car running. The Hypertech chip let the car hold an idle and smoothed out the bottom end somewhat.

Here's the deal on chips. They are not for performance gains. They are to give you back your driveability after you've made major mods. At this point, they can give you a little more power, but most will be coming from the mods themself. Also, if you've made major mods, a custom chip is the only option you should consider, not an off the shelf generic. A chip on a stock car is a complete waste of money. The only possible benefit would be to lower fan temps, but Mid America sells a switch for about 20 bucks that does the same thing.
