I need some advice, 180 or 195 cc heads for my 383? they both flow about the same if i get the cnc 180's vs the as cast 195's i think 180's are better , any thoughts? Accel big mouth with slp runners air foil , 48mm throttle body as the new zo6 vette breaths through a throttle body smaller than this , I feel twinn 48 mm is plenty of air coming in, I have removed the screens on the MAF , Comp Cams Roller 218 230, @ 50,000 Air foil , I am looking for 500 ft tq and 425 hp , strictly street motor, I'm thinking the smaller heads for better gas mileage , anyone running a simalar package ? i know it's hard to get good mileage and hp too, but gm seems to be able to do it
Personnally, if I had to do it again - I would go with the cnc'd competition 195's. I originally purchased the race ready 195's and to have them ported/cnc'd to the competition level by AFR after the fact would be $1,000.
I have not seen proof of the 180's abilities to keep up with the 195's. When I mean proof - I am talking about real world testing and performance #'s by forum members.
Go with comp ported 195's - This will allow you to upgrade intake/plennum to a SuperRam in the future with added performance.
you sound like a perfect candidate for these: http://tpis.com/
click on "engine development", scroll down to bottom of page. call them and talk to jim. i thinky you'll likey. $1850, 100% CNC'd, comp ported, the full works treatment on the valvetrain (assembled/set up by tpis, NOT afr!), etc, etc.......
That would be a smart move. There's a bunch of tricks that can be done to improve an already good AFR head, and those guys KNOW them well. That's he&% of a price for WELL set up AFR's.

Just a note that 48mm throttle body is also used on the GM 502 Ramjet crate engine that makes over 510HP! So yes a 48mm can breathe quite well
First, the ZO6 does NOT use a 48mm t.b.... It uses a single bore 70mm (I believe that's what it is) which is actually smaller than the 48mm twin bore TPI/LT1 style. But, Tom's right the 48mm will flow good air. I've put a couple of them on the flow bench and they usually flow in the 700 cfm range which when you're talking about dry flow (vs. wet like a carb) is actually a pretty good amount.
I would suggest the 195's on a 383 as well. The 180's are nice and do a great job of keeping port velocity high which aides in torque production. See where I'm going here? The 383 with its longer stroke in conjunction with the intake system you plan on using will already produce a prodigious amount of torque. You don't need the additional velocity out of the small port heads to make even more; go with the 195's and enjoy the benefits of more power potential. Your 383 will make enough torque.

I have a set of 195 CNC AFR on the way, so No real numbers. The heads in the sig are 180 Protoplines. 11.82@118 Same run is not to bad. Its just I wanted more.
