Default Replacing Halfshaft seals

My car is starting to leave puddles of oil on the floor in the garage. Besides the couple of drips from the engine, it seems that the seals on either side of the diff are leaking also. There is a major buildup of oily gunk on the housing too. I doesn't look like the cover seal is leaking (much).

The question is: How do I get at these seals? Is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks

Dale

Sorry for the bad news but there is no easy way. You must remove rear and separate the diff from the backbone. You then have to remove 2 mean azz c-clips. Keep track of which went where as they are selective thickness clips. Then r&r the seals.I would recommened replacing the pinion seal also. The local dealer was priced competively with aftermarkt seals. I think I spent $30 for all 3 seals.I smear a little Indian head shelac on the edge that touches the case. I also seal the diff to cover with permatex ultra copper. Works best for me.Expect to take 7 hrs or more to do the job yourself. A shop can quote a firm labor time if you choose to have them do it. Good luck either way!

That is pretty much whatI figured from looking at the shop manual but I was hoping that there was an easier way. Oh well, I think this project will have to be put off for awhile. I just moved and don't have anyplace to work on anything major right now.

Thanks for the help tho. When I get to this repair I am sure I will have more questions.

I need to do that soon too. I looked at the rear and decided to wait until I need something replaced in the rear.
