Default Stalling when going into gear...

I recently rebuilt the motor, 250 duration on the cam big lift, vic jr. intake, 11 and a quater compression. It idles at like 1200 then I go to put it in gear and it drops to like 500 or 600 then stalls or just stalls out. I'm thinking it could be the torque converter because I have the original plus I have trick 195 cnc machine heads.

That's a huge cam if you're talking duration @ .050
If that's right, you need a new chip. My car did the same thing when I put in a 224@.050 cam. A new chip made my car idle without dying constantly. PM ski_dwn_it(Jesse) He'll hook you up

The computer is gone. Yes, that is the gross duration. Just have hooked up what I need to run the cluster.

Gross duration? Do you mean advertised? If so, the cam's not as big as I thought. My 224@.050 is 280 advertised

Who the heck made that cam?! I've never seen that much lift with that little duration before

You need to be more clear. By did you mean you don't care about advertised duration? If so, and those numbers are @.050 then the cam makes more sense. If that IS the case, you DEFINATELY need a new chip

Well, I looked it up and that's WAY too big of a camshaft for your stock tune to handle. Get a chip burned and your problems will be over. End of story.

Like I said earlier there is no computer. Everything is unhooked other than the gages and tranny.

With no computer controlling the injector pulse width and ingition timing, I'm surprised it runs at all. I think we need to know, "The Rest Of The Story".

Oops, I guess i was selective reading. I don't know if a higher stall converter would cure that. I noticed no change in mine when I went up to a 2500 stall. Is the carb tuned?

That is an awfully large cam for a ~350 engine. Besides helping the idle, you need a MUCH higher stall converter. That cam isn't going to make diddle squat for low end torque. The idle can probably be tamed, somewhat, by dialing in a short advance curve and massaging the carb. It COULD be given better manners with a well sorted out EFI system.

RACE ON!!!

The carburetor still needs to be adjusted a little better. I have the had the vacuum gauge on it and everything seems to be fine. I just think I need a 3500 stall. I just wanted to rule out any other problems as in hei or bad fuel pressure etc. Thats what the guys at Summit tech said. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to go with that big of a stall because I'm going to have to go with fan setup tranny cooler.

Unfortunately, with that ridiculously large of a cam, an equally ridiculous stall speed is all that will help
