Reason: forgot something
If someone knows of an additive package that doesn't work as well as Water Wetter, I need to know about it. For the additive package, I have a standard 12 oz bottle in my cooling system with only tap water. On a 40 mile trip, in 95* weather, at 65-70 mph, I couldn't get my engine over 177*.
I put the Royal Purple in mine just yesterday after flushing the cooling system to prepare for a road trip taking me all the way through California, which is very hot this time of year, so I'll know shortly how it performs. So far mine has not gotten above 182F, but here in Seattle, the weather has been cooler (not counting Saturday where it reached 100F!!!).
The interesting thing about Royal Purple is the directions only call for 3-4 cap fulls per 1 gal of water/coolant, not an entire bottle.
I have not used anything in the '96, but used Water Wetter in the '79 and it brought temp down about 15 degrees. The C3s (for those who don't know) are notorious for running really hot and making the cockpit feel like an oven! C4s are a nice change....
they only work if runnning straight water, the draining and replacing with 50/50 will help And used distilled water with the anti-freeze (the additive's are water softeners)
This thread is timely for me.
Im working on a 86 Monte Carlo with a 454 in it.
Its running about 220 now.
Im adding water wetter today & will have a report tommorrow from the owner.
I checked water wetter & 40 below.
$40 below requries a certain type of antifreeze & since I dont know what kind is in the car, I didnt choose it.Also it requres distilled water.
Also 40 below is $20, Water wetter is $7.You can use any anti freeze & regular or distilled water.
There are a couple of misconceptions in this thread.
Anti-freeze actually does not cause the car to run cooler. Water itself is the best coolant. The problem with running straight water is that its' lubricating properties are not as good as the water with the anti-freeze.
The other benefit to using anti-freeze is that it raises the boiling point of the water.
One last comment true Distilled water is pure. There should be no minerals in the water.

The lubricating properties are the reason I use Water Wetter. I started using it when I was concerned with running too hot, and have continued. Now, it doesn't run hot enough, but it sure cools down quickly between rounds at the track.
