Just what the topic asks. The Vette started to sputter a little at idle and was actually struggling to idle until I put it in neutral. The mechanic had the computer hooked up while he was driving it and was getting all kinds of misfire codes. He seems to think it may be the optispark cap. Anyone had any experience with this? Any help would be appreciated.
I have been having idle / driveability issues with mine. I popped the hood and saw the spark arcing from the wire to the header. I'm gonna try new wires and see where that takes things.

hm. that many misfires would lead me to believe that wires would be the first culpret. Bad coil wires can cause all sorts of problems like this... so can bad coils or bad ingition modules (the coil driver).
if it was the opti, and there were that many problems, I would expect some codes.
if it IS the opti, replace the entire unit... the cap is a waste of good labour $$$.
This is what I would do: replace the wires first (they more than likely need it anyway). If that does not fix it, replace the opti.
Bogus, tell me more about what symptoms a flaky ignition module can cause. Can it cause no misses but a reduced spark intensity? Or will a healthy coil always keep the voltage adequate for a strong spark? Can an Ignition Module be tested?
As I understand it, a module will act weird just before it quits... and when it quits, it quits.
As for the coil... it will be where I would focus my attention. Also, the coil wire. The coil wire passes through the waterpump somehow (can't remember the routing off hand) but is subjected to rubbing and things. If it is rubbed enough, it will short out and cause miss fires.
Hey Black 89...that is exactly what my mechanic told me that mine was doing today. We are gonna change out the plug wires tomorrow with some AC Delcos. I hope it fixes the problem!

you may want to consider Taylor wires... they are very very nice.
Taylor wires are what I have on it now. My mechanic doesn't seem to like them too much and he talked me in to going back with the Delco's. I'll let you all know how it goes.
