Problems with my Vette please help me
Seriously, if this is your first time, the hardest/longest part is removing the gas cover/lid and neck assembly. I've done a few '86s and '87's, heres the steps:1) Disconnect battery.
2) Remove the four screws holding the gas cover/lid on and remove the cover/lid.
3) Trace wires coming out of top of neck assembly back to connector and disconnect.
4) Disconnect all the fuel and vent lines (held on by clamps)
5) Remove all the bolts holding the neck assembly in place (there are several, 8 if remember correctly). On the '86s & '87s you need a 10mm socket, should be the same on the '85.
6) Pull the neck assembly out slowly, the pump and float assesmbly are attached and you will have to manuver it a little to get the float out of the tank. You also want to be careful not to drip gas on your car, I lay towels all around the opening just to be safe.
Once out you should be able to remove the old pump and install the new one with out much trouble. Once you do, simply reverse the instructions to reinstall.
Hope this helps and good luck ...

You say you got a "Service Engine Soon" light and put the car on a diagnostics system. What codes did you get? Usually the L-98 MAF codes are code 33 or code 34.
I once had an issue where at odd times I'd see the SES light and the car would run lousy due to its going into Limp Home Mode. Thius was because the ECM thought the MAF had a fault. Driving with a scan tool hooked up I saw the ECM set several codes at once when the problem reoccurred. Several different codes MAF, Fuel Pump, TPS all at once made me think the ECM was at fault. It was. Not necessarily your solution, but something to consider. Tell us what codes the diagnostics showed.
