aftermarket tach
Anyways, the tach in my 1990 is off about 2 grand at WOT, it read 6000 RPMS when the engine is really turning 4100 RPMS. So I want to buy a new aftermarket tach instead of trying to fix my stock one. But I have 2 questions:
1.) Do I use the wire coming from the distributor to wire in the new tach? If so, will that disable the stock tach?
2.) If I run the wire right from the distributor, would that screw up the car's computer because it would no longer know what speed the motor is running at? If so, how can I disable the stock tach and have the computer read off the new tach. (I must have some rev limiter, as everytime the tach hits 6k, the fuel pump shuts off just enough that I can't rev past that. It has the stock chip though.
But I figure I could solve it if I could have the aftermarket tach read right, even though the computer reads the engine speed before the signal is transferred to the tach (is that how it works?))
