Check the very end of the rack where the input shaft goes into the rack. There is a cap there. On the cap is a code which interprets what type of rack you have. It's something like YXM or WXY, I forget. With that code you can interpret what type of rack you have, standard or performance. If you follow where the steering column intermediate shaft connects to the rack and continue to the other side there is a protrusion on the rack, that's where the cap is. This is where I found mine on my '85. Good luck.
