I need help diagnosing(sp?) a front headlight problem. When I turn on the headlight, it comes up but doesn't catch where it is suppose to and will continue to bounce up and down trying to catch for about 10 secs...it will catch however if i walk over and prop the headlight up with my hand and wait for it to stop bouncing....if I don't go and prop it up, it won't catch at the top and will end up hanging somewhere in the middle. I wouldnt mind some help in seeing what people think my problem is before I start dismantling the thing...(if it requires dismantling, could someone help me out?)
Given the year, I would say it sounds like either the bushings (there are 3) or the gear; or both. You can replace the bushings and/or the gear, both of which you can buy through MAD or Ecklers. Someone here also knows the part number of bushings you can buy from Home Depot for a lot less -- there are mixed oppinions about using them though. I also believe there is a tech tip on how to replace the bushings/gear. Hope this helps.
I'd try the bushings first. Go to Home Depot and ask for item number 595609. You will need six (6) of these nylon spacers to repair both headlights. They cost me .69 cents plus tax. Cheap fix.
And I have not had a lick of trouble out of my lights since I fixed mine on the Home Depot tip.
