I've got the puller on there and I'm giving it all I got. It won't budge. That's at about 80 ft/lbs.

Before I pull harder - am I doing something wrong? This is a opti/oil pan/timing cover/water pump project.

Here's the image:

here it is from the other side of the car.

Make sure you are loosen and remove the center bolt of the hub before trying pull it with the puller.

Mitch that hub has an inner flange that has a hole the diameter of the retaining bolt. So your puller is pushing against this flanger and NOT the crank snout. You need to fab a push rod out of a piece of steel dowel the same OD as the bolt which if my memory serves me right is 1/2 make the dowel about 3 inches longer than the bolt as it has to hit the bottom of the threaded hole in the crank snout. Then your puller will push against this dowel and pull the hub off.

Your after a big job there! If you got it that far apart, maybe you should upgrad to the late model OPTI. Its a lot cheaper than the 94 and earlier units. You would have to replace the timing cover with a later model 95 and up cover. And you would have to install a longer dowel pin into your cam or install a HOT cam at this time. You are more than half way there when you have it this far apart. Plus the later units are vented and less prone to problems.

I've pulled out that bolt and thick washer thing you're talking about. The bolt is 7/16.

Back to Orchard Supply I go.

I The crank snout must be really thin!

Oh yea - the opti is a Dynaspark unit - fit for the 92. The water pump is the meziere hd unit. All the good stuff.

The greasy gunk is just a mess.

Screw the bolt back in a safe number of threads, w/o the washer and you can use the puller against it. By the time it's off as far as that will allow you, it's almost off and you can probably tap it off the rest of the way.

It's off. 6 hours, two pullers, two 7/16 bolts, and 4 beers... Only a little blood.

What an unholy pain in the A$$ this is.

Here is an article I wrote last year when I did this project on my 92. One thing I'll preach here is tools. If you are going to do this ever again, please do your self a favor and buy the Kent-Moore LT1/4 hub puller/installer kit. It's so worth the $150 or so.
