I think my ASR has a mind of it's own. Sometimes when I start the vehicle the ASR will kick on automatically (without me even moving) like it's going through it's little self test, but it doesn't stop. It just cycles for a second then stops for 2 seconds and then cyles again for a second and the stops for 2 sec.....you get the idea. To get it to stop, I have to disable the ASR. I can then turn it back on and it's fine. Also, sometimes when I start the car, put it in gear, and start to roll I hear it cycle through it's ASR test (I know this is normal). But, when I step on the accellerator the ASR ACTIVE light comes on and the ASR kicks in. I have to let off of the gas to get it to stop. I then have to turn ASR off.
The wierd thing is that it doesn't do it everytime. Just every once in a while. I don't ever use the ASR anyway, it's just embarrasing when your giving someone a ride and it starts acting up. I like all of my options to work correctly. Any info would be appreciated!

The majority of ASR/ABS problems are caused by problems with the wheel speed sensors. Try cleaning the wheel speed sensors.
If that doesn't work, try getting the codes from the ABS/ASR computer (these are NOT ECM codes).
And, finally, if the above doesn't help you, find someone with a Tech-1A, MasterTech, or another scan-tool that does ABS and ASR diagnostics -- this will definitely nail it down.
I am not having any problems with my ASR (at this time at least), but I have wondered ever since I bought the car if there is not a way to disable the thing completely- that is, so it would not automatically come on each time the car is started. I always turn it off it anyway. The car is not a daily driver and if the weather is crappy, I just take another car. Is there a way to permanently disable the ASR on a 92 LT1 Auto?
