Default Installing Low Temperature Cooling Fan Switch

Okay I ordered this from M.A. a couple of months ago and am deciding it's time to install it. I ordered the kit, so I have everything needed...except the @#$$# tool to take the plug out of the head between the #1 and #3 sparkplug. I've tried every Allen wrench in my arsenal, tried 3/8 ratchet, tried 1/4 ratchet, tried brake caliper sockets. I can't seem to find anything to fit in the plug to take it out. What size of what tool do I need? I can't really get a good look at it because of the smog line but it's a plug, not unlike the kind you'd find in a rear differential only obviously smaller.

I don't know the size but that is the hardest part of installing that switch in an L98 that didn't come with the aux fan option.

You could always take it to a shop and have the plug extracted and the fan switch installed. Some guys have made a custom tool from steel bar stock.

Good luck with it, but it will be worth the hassle to have it running cooler.

I believe the plug has a 5/16 inch square hole. I had the same problem when the manual switch was installed in my 89. I went to the hardware store and bought a piece of 5/16 square key stock. I then placed the square inside a hex nut and welded the two together. This tool was placed inside a socket and out came the plug. You can get a cheap 3/8 short extension and grind off two sides to make a 5/16 square tool. I have not seen these for sale?

Did I not read somewhere that the sensor also messes with other computer parameters and might be somewhat deleterious to performance in other respects if one replaces it with a different one?

I think your confusing this one with the sensor under TB in front part of intake. The normal aux fan switch is just a switch and effects only when the aux fan comes on. When tied into your main fan relay it effects when your main fan is switched on. No danger

Edit. Just checked your profile and see yours in an LT4. I have no knowledge about the LT4 cooling. Hopefully someone else will check in soon.

Default I couldn't get it out either...sooooooo

Yeh I tried to get that plug out of mine too....wouldn't budge....tried all the methods above too. Even went to my mechanic who just made that plug all messed up....said it would have to be tapped and drilled....I was like....NO FN WAY.....so my resolve....had Craig Marcho here on the forum duplicate my stock chip only had him alter when the fans came on.....and low and behold....easier and cost me about the same.
