Default Water pump drive shaft

I'm in the middle of the opti/timing cover/oil pan/water pump project. 92 LT1, 60K, 6 speed.

I've got the oil pan and timing cover off. I'm going with the meziere water pump. I need to remove the gear drive for the water pump. Do I have to take the timing chain off?

On the oil pan gasket - the FelPro gasket is sweet - the little corner holders! Bitchin' Am I supposed to use any silicone with this install?

I'm not planning on replacing the timing chain.

The new opti is the dynaspark.

I know it's a little long, but here is an article I did for the Tech-Tips:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...=231&TopicID=2

I think I explained how I got the water pump driven gear off using a tool designed just for this. It's a horse shaped puller that fastens around the shaft. Most of it was in my Helms manual. I also explained how I plugged the hole in the timing cover. If you have anymore questions about it just ask. I did mine a couple of years ago and it's still running great.

Strick - I printed out your tech tip awhile ago - it's been the bible for this project. However I don't see the part about the water pump gear?

The timing cover is already plugged - I just need to get that shaft off. It's sort of nestled behind the timing chain - did you pull off the timing chain?

Did I pull my timing chain? Yes I did as the driven gear messes behind the cam sprocket.

Strick - By the way - Thank You!

The tech tip has been very valuble. Thanks for taking the time to write it. My beer breaks seem to be more often though....

Why pull the gear - to eliminate an oil leak location. Plus - an unsupported shaft is going to get all of it's structural needs from the oil seal. That can't last long.

Here's the gear in question:
