Pocket Programmer 2 help needed
I took the basic directions from this...
http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml
I'm using step 2 off thirdgen's webpage.
I can't get my programmer to read my chip. It keeps saying "Device is NOT in the socket properly."
I followed their steps and my memcal onto the pin connector onto the programmer looks exactly like thirdgen's. I don't know what I'm doing wrong here.
Also, on the huge list of Eprom's, which one is mine? Is it 27C16? How do I check which one it is?
I am totally lost.

Oh yeah, you gotta have the "service number" off the ECM to use the link. If it helps, you probably have a 1227165 or 16198259...

If your car is a 89 you should have a 165 ECM in that case the prom that is used in that ECM is a 27C128. It has 28 pins, you should only be using 28 of the 34 pins on your header. Just clip off the remaining part that is not used. You should insert the header into the bottom of the GM Memcal so that the header pins begin at the prom end of the Memcal. The prom should be oriented so that the indexing notch on the top of the prom should be pointed towards the release handle of the PP2. Even though you have a EW chip you should be able to read it. But he may have encrypted it, if he did you can email it to me and chances are I can hack his encyption and email it back to you.
On important note is that you need to choose which device that you are working on before you insert it into the PP2.

I already clipped the other 6 pins (3 rows x 2) and have it inserted as per thirdgen's web page.
Now, to save the .bin what do I do?
Here's what I have tried...
1. Blank Check: DEVICE IS NOT ERASED
2. Verify Device : DEVICE VERIFIED TO BUFFER
3. Move Device : DEVICE HAS BEEN MOVED TO BUFFER
4. Program Compare : DEVICE CAN BE PROGRAMMED
5. Set up for Binary file
6. Save Buffer : Saved as first read.bin on my computer.
7. Open Tuner Pro: File -> Open Bin -> first read.bin
8. Double click under Tables : Spark Advance table. All readings are zero's.
I have the 6Ev011.ecu saved from a while ago. I just downloaded that.
I don't think it's saving my information off my chip. It's just saving a blank .bin file. I tried this with WinBin as well. Just coming up as blanks.
How do I save the info on my chip?

When you have the chip in the PP2, click on "move device" then click on "save buffer" then it will prompt you for a directory destination. Make a new file folder and call it "bin files" or whatever you want. Give it a name and then save it. If you are still having problems send me the file and let me see if I can open it. Here's my email address: tjwong@qwest.net
Clicked on move device.
Clicked on save buffer.
Saved as black89vette.bin which I will email you.
Every time I try that, it just seems to be zero's when I open it with TunerPro and WinBin.
