Default Code 43 solved!

I posted a while back about the trouble I was haveing with a code 43. I changed the knock sensor, ECM, Prom and other items as per the Helms manual trying to fix the problem. During all the checking and such I accidently found that buy unplugging the oil temp sensor, it would not set the code. There is nothing that I could see in the wiring diagrams that shared anything between the knock sensor and the oil temp sensor. With the temp sensor plugged in the gauge worked fine so I found it hard to believe that it could be a problem. I changed the oil temp sensor and that fixed it, go figure, no more code.

Obviously you have your sensors/senders mixed up. The gauge won't work without the sensor, and that circuit doesn't interface with the ECM so with the gauge working or not, a code wouldn't be set or not be set. But if you're happy...

The oil temp sensor is located above the oil filter on an L98. I agree that it does not make sense, however when I replaced the sensor the code 43 went away. Believe it or not. If it was a normal fix, I wouldn't have bothered to post it. And yes, I'm happy.

Was the oil temp sensor shorted or open?

I'm wondering if maybe the ESC uses the same ground path as that sensor, if so maybe a shorted sensor would bias knock sensor data???

I didn't check it. When I had it plugged in the gauge worked fine but would set the code. I noticed that when I unplugged it in the beginning there was a little oil inside the seal. According the wiring diagrams in my Helms manual the wiring does not cross anywhere. However there may be some connection internally in the ECM. My 91 does not have an ESC.
