code cures
so a while back I posted in general about my codes (33 and 36 on my '87). I don't have a helms manual (YET!), but will eventually (need a cheap one for my budget). Anybody got some details about what I need to do? Perhaps some plagarism for me?
Obviously, check your MAF, it's connections, , all it's wires, and it's screens for any obstruction. Then check it's relay, and the burnoff relay. Also check for any air and vacuum leaks in intake system.
I have a 90 with speed density (no maf) so I cant locate and identify the relays and such for you but here's a tip. While waiting on your manual to arrive, you could go to a chevy dealer service dept. and sneak passed the service writer or walk through a back service bay door and talk to a mechanic (one of the older ones is usually best) first hand and ask your needed questions. Most mechanics are down to earth and willing to give free advice. Good luck.
you could pick up a haynes manual from your local parts shop for 15 bucks... its not as extensive as helms, but it does have a decent code troubleshooting section...

It won't take the replacement of too many unnecessary parts to pay for that book. If you don't find the proper bargain soon, go here: www.helminc.com Otherwise you may end up paying for it, without getting it.

I had the same problem on my 87 I checked the maf, changed the air filter, and so on with no luck so I bought the relay for the mass air burnoff and it was fixed quick and easy
The MAF relay and the burnoff relay are not expensive. I do not like installing parts only on a hunch, but in this case, I would replace both relays, I replaced my burnoff relay for this reason and it fixed that code. I opened up the relay and saw worn relay contacts.
I have had code 33 for a "Long" Time with my 86C4. What a Nightmare !
I'm the proud owner of 3 perfectly good Maf Sensors, new relays, new ecm .. I've had 4 different quallified shops check it out, I even had a GM engineer who worked on the development of this system poke around with it. No luck. Finally had a new blank chip made on a Dyno with all the dumb codes deleted. For me this was the only solution. Well worth it.
