Just got my hands on a standard bore 400 small block, 4 bolt #1511 casting. Looking for ideas for crank, pistons, cam, etc for starters. Want a 400HP+ street/strip car naturally aspirated. Should I consider a 421, or less?
I am willing to sacrifice some driveability, but I have to drive 50 miles to get to the track. Also would still like some weekend cruises around town.
Looking for some ideas and I am taking my time on this build. 700R4 Auto tranny and 3.07 gears right now.
It will be easy to make 400hp. Cam Hyd/roller in the 230 range, crank 3.75 stroke eagle, 6" eagle rods, SRP pistons 10.5 to 1 comp., Have the rotating assembly internally balanced, Heads Brodix Track1 cnc ported, intake SuperRam or Mini ram take your pick, 1.6 roller rockers, fluidampner, it would probably put you in the 500hp range...
As for the 400 4bolt block I'm with CFI they are known for being weak. It is better to convert a 2 bolt 400 to a splayed 4 bolt. The other option is to by an aftermarket block...

If you are looking to make more power and you want it to be bulletproof ditch the 4 bolt and find a 2 bolt or spend the $$$ for an aftermarket block...
