What is the purpose of the resonator on the Corvette? I don't like the sound of muffler eliminators but I've been wondering how it would sound with the stock mufflers and no resonator. Why would GM put such a quiet exhaust system on such a hot car as a Corvette? It doesn't even sound like a hi-performance car.

1996z15

On my 1995 I took out the resonator and put a set of flowmaster 3 chambers on the car. Sounded VERY throaty!

My 1996 I left the resonator in and ran 2 chamber flowmasters, it did not sound near as aggressive.

I just recently lost the resonator and went with a new system

I would say that removing the resonator with muffler eliminators will sound great however it may be a bit loud...

Mo, that's what I'm getting at. Would the car sound too loud or just right if I were to remove the resonator and keep the stock mufflers? Will the resonance that I'm assuming will be increased be too much to take?

Hi 1996,

Personally with stock mufflers i don't think it would be too loud. The resonance that most people complain from are the after-market mufflers.

I think you'd be quite happy...

Thanks for the input Mo, I might have to try it out. I can't afford any of those high dollar systems and I think that this might give me the sound that I am after.

Come on up to E-Town and listen to mine and Panuzzo's cars. We both did muffler eliminators, I think they sound great. Maybe you need to hear them again

Jim, take the resonator off but leave the mufflers. It worth a shot. It will sound better.
