Default EGR switch wire missing?

Hello again,
I noticed that my EGR switch does not have a wire attached to it.
I have looked all over and I cannot find a wire that looks like it should be attached. (I have no idea where the other end of the missing wire should be attached)
I know I need to get a new switch and wire, could someone tell me where the other end goes?
It's not in my Haynes and I havent bought the helmes yet.
Just in case it makes a difference it's an 87 vert auto.
Thank you.

The EGR switch is located on the passenger side at the rear of the engine by the tube-it's a little thing with one wire attached to it-kinda sticks up like a very small spark plug. And because the wire runs back behind the dist. and low where it plugs in it's easier to cut and splice the wire-if you do-use some shrink tape to seal it.Hope that's a clear enough explanation.

Thanks Rick but that didn't help.
Maybe I wasn't clear.
My wire is missing, so splicing is out of the question.
I have the switch that sticks up and know where it is. I want to hook it back up again or replace it but need to know where the other end goes.
Behind the distributor helps but I'm not there yet.
Anyone have a picture?
Thanks

I don't know if this will help but... The new switch will come with a length of wire on the top with a plastic connector on the end of the wire. That connector attaches to the connector on the wire that has probably fallen down behind the distributor somewhere. On my 86, the connection location is nearly behind the distributor making it very difficult to disconnect / connect the EGR switch wire. Maybe the wire behind the distributor could be rerouted? I spliced in another connector closer to the switch for easier access.

I will have another look, it's not the easiest place to see.
So far I haven't been able to find any wire that is not attached at both ends.
It does sound like finding the wire is what I need to do because replacing it will be tough.
I should also add that I bought the car like this so I don't know how long it has actually been missing.

You may need to pull the dist to locate the other end of the wire. Maybe just removing the plenum tail piece and the dist cap will give enough visibility back there. Look for a short section of Grn wire with a mating connector.

On my '88 the connector was down behind and to the left of the intake base, comming out of that thick wiring harness that runs across the top of the bell housing.

If you decide to splice a wire into the Grn wire (as I did when I had the intake base off), use heat shrink tubing over the splice for a weather tight seal.

Green wire and it goes into a wiring harness behind the distributor etc.
Okay, sounds like it has to be there, even if the entire length is not there I should be able to find something.
Thanks.
