Default Pretty cool conversation today...

Sorta off topic, but thought some of you guys would appreciate it.

Jeb you will probably like the story.

Today I was called at the office by the secretary and told that I had a guy from Nascar on the phone and wanted to buy some of our parts. I picked up the call and it was John Maddox from Robert Yates Racing Engines. Not being a nascar buff, did not really realize who it even was. Anyways, I spoke with him for quite a while and learned that he needed some of the cam caps we manufacture for overhead cammed engines. I did not think that these were used in these application, but like I said I am not a nascar buff, so I wouldn't know for sure anyways.

Anyways we talked for quite awhile on motors and other things. Since they are "Ford" I was reluctant to mention the vette, but couldn't resist. He was pretty impressed with the results we were getting out of them - unless he was just humoring me. I kidded with him and said that in order to complete the order, I would need him to hook me up with a good set of sb2 heads/intake etc, although I know they are chevy - he said he couldn't help me there unless I wanted a set of ford equivs. I laughed, but maybe I should start a ford project if can get a good set of heads like that.

I have to talk to him tomorrow again and might probe some more infomation out of him on perhaps a contact on the chevy side that might be a good link to some used SB equipment.

Here is a link I found on their outfit. I know its the enemy - but its cool meeting guys that are into this stuff - and actually make a living and get paid for doing it. Isn't that what Heavin is?

Hope you enjoy.

Ah, you know he could get the Chevy stuff from some racing buds. Squeeze him again and set up a GP for them!

Sound like a very interesting conversation! Besides, I don't see Ford as the "enemy" at all. It's the imports I see as the "enemy" if we have to define an enemy. IMHO American muscle is cool in all its forms! I happen to be a Corvette guy, but I see a Mustang guy or a Viper as just another American knot head that appreciates American muscle!

I'll hang with anyone that's into cars as long as they aren't a punk. We went to cruise the Goodguys show in Columbus this year on a Friday night. Hung out at a hotel with my vette talking to guys with dueces and another friend came with an over the top turbo GTI. Everyone was cool just talking cars and getting into each other projects.

Jesse, check out aNascar ford head and compare it to a sb-2 head. The chevy ports were cast off the ford head. Just saw a dyno run on a Jensen sb-2 headed 434. Made HUGE numbers on the dyno. Grab a set if you can!

Haha interesting;

and for those who take that sort of stuff seriously, ford isn't the enemy, nor are imports (more importantly think of where stuff is made, and speaking of that, think of why Bush wants to eliminate the requirement for that to be made known).. It's the people. Let's face it, there are plenty of deuchebags that drive GM, just like there are driving a ford and a toyota.....

Pete. What sorta number did it make. Just curious?

We have a bunch of ford heads at our facility for demos and research - I would imagine the nascar ones are different? no? They do have some funky looking intake and exhaust ports. Low and wide - Much different than the typical 23* head, and much different from the LS heads.

Where can someone score some of these sb2 heads. I read up on them, and I would not get a set unless I had an inside scoop that could insure they were good. For several reasons. I read that these teams do A LOT of testing on the heads (porting, etc) and scrap out many of them cause they screw up the airflow - to a point of not being any better than a typical 23* head. Also they said the manifolds are the same way, you have to get the manifold that was specifically ported to the heads, otherwise you might wind up with a dud setup. Its a lot of money to come up short handed. Hence the "in-side" connection that I would need to have.

I'm sure they'd have a set or two at DEI. They're even in the phone book! Just swing down there and ask 'em for a pair. I'll bet they've got a few they could stand to get rid of.
