I have a 96 Lt1 a4, would i be able to use the lt4 hotcam on a stock lt1 with only hypertech computer upgrade? if not any suggestions on just a cam swap?
From: St. Peters MO Sometimes you have to prove yourself by doing alot of killing or alot of dying...
You can use just the cam depending on the present milage of the current valve train... but you are much better off getting the kit with the 1:6 rockers and correct valve springs. As for just the cam swap... I'm partial to TPIS, but it seems others on this forum have had alot of bad luck with them
What other mods have you done? and are you considering headers as well?
If you are doing the hot cam, buck up and get the whole kit... and read the FAQ tech questions and note the "Nathan Plemmons dyno page". It will detail the expected HP gains and what to do and what not to do.
only mods i have so far are the hypertech programmer, 160 stat, magnaflow exhaust. 77 k on the car. the kit does sound a bit better, about how long is the install on the who thing? id probable have to have someone do it for me, local garage usually charges 50 bucks an hour

If you're going to do the kit, you might as well do the heads as well since they have to come off anyway. Remember, things done as a "package" will net more gains that those done individually.
If you can't wrench on your own car, be prepared to take it in the shorts to have someone else do it for you - it's a pretty big job.
The heads don't have to come off to install a hot cam kit.
You're right - my bad (I must be tired or something). However, it would be easy to do the heads anyway considering the intake is off and they're oh-so-exposed.
I stick by my statement about the "package" concept however...
Thanks for the info guys, i could do it all myself but getting it back together right, lol i dunno if i trust myself, but taking a weekend project beats paying out 15 hours of labor. The kit concept does make sense they must make them for a reason.

The power programmer won't do squat for the HOT cam. If you need you can send me your PCM and I can tune it for you. Just remove the HPP tune, so that you can sell it. All I need to know is what you got in your modifications other than the cam. For instance if you changed the rear axle ratio I would need to know that.
Sweet, only good thing ive heard about using the hypertech programmer is the rear axle change and spedo calibration, most people say the tuning doesnt do too much for you, i havnt put the car on the dyno yet to see any improvments
