And that is absurd that heat wrap does more than ceramic coating.
I urge you to do a test yourself,(since right now you are presuming)
I can tell you that non coated vs coated vs wrap the coating will win every time no questions asked! It keeps heat inside the header the wrap tries to keep heat inside but since it does not work from the inside out, it doesn't really do much.
also cermaic coatings keep more heat at a higher temps from escaping the headers!
using the wrap is good for keeping things like wires and fuel lines from getting hot but not on headers. using wrap on you headers is like using a long sleeve shirt in 10 degree weather! It does something but not much!

see name
not presuming anything.

your "on the outside" thing is presuming and quiet frankly, incorrect. it insulates around hte header and doesn't let heat escape. Its like wearing a wet suit in the water.

ceramic coating doesn't cut it, which is why i asked the question in the first place.

not knocking your product. it has its propper application (steel headers).

i really dont care if you want to live in a fantasy world based on myths, i just want to know if the ceramic coating will prevent rusting with header wrap.

75% of the internet is erronious myths from cross drilled rotors to ceramic coating to the overstated importance of equal length headers to suspension- i'm not making any kind of effort to correct it here. this is a drop in the bucket.

i was hoping that as a manufacturer with expierence in this product you could tell me if ceramic coated headers will rust when heat wrapped

ceramic headers disipate heat so well its not funny!
Ok!

Sean I'm sure you're a nice guy and it's not my intention to knock you or your services!

Please do some research into the services you're offering so that you can more clearly explain things to people. This will avoid a lot of misunderstandings in the future. No one is saying that anyone should wrap their headers instead of sending them to you for coating - the question asked was - if a set of headers you coat are wrapped and they rust will you still honor the warranty. Companies who ceramic coat headers do not usually warranty the headers if heat wrap is used.

Yes ceramic coating headers inside and out does reduce the heat in the engine compartment and does a great job of it while looking good at the same time. Using header wrap will do an even better job of insulating the headers because you're thoroughly covering them with a thick layer of insulation which retains the heat. The best combination would be to heat wrap a pair of ceramic coated headers as you would be providing an extra layer of insulation to retain the heat of the exhaust. The drawback is that this usually causes the headers to rust - yes even with the ceramic coating.

From what I understand you have a friend who works at the place that does the ceramic coatings? So if I want to have my headers coated I will ship them to the place that does the coatings and your friend will coat them? Is the warranty through your friend or through you? So is the warranty only against rust or does it cover the coating burning off?

Lastly please make a distinction between your opinion and facts and I think we can all get along!

just my $.02

Joe

I think you may be making some assumptions, here, not necessarily grounded in fact.

As with other companies we dont warranty agianst rust if one uses heat wrap.

Yes my friend does it and I help him with it. the warrenty would be from both if he thinks its our fault he'll redo it free but it he doesnt think so then I'll pay for it. So either way you are protected as a customer agianst malfunctions of the product!

also enough with arguing with people you guys know what it does you can believe it or not, use it or not, buy it from me or not!
the facts are:
our prices are cheap as heck and we do a better quality of work as well!
anything else you guys can say I'm done arguing and sorry if I upset anyone it just makes me mad when weve tested this stuff and someone tells me otherwise. Also this is my living and something I love to do! and when someone says it doesnt work or its no good then it makes you feel bad! and that's how I've felt. But the reality is that 80% of people who get header have the coated! either by a Metallurgist or from the company they buy them from.. because 80% of people know it does work.

Now Mr. Saleen I appologize I didn't read all of your origional post. Did not mean to make you angry.

thanks guys your friend
Sean

also Larry your headers will be done by Friday!
and shipped either then or monday!

Saleen to awnser your Q.

over time they can because the heat wrap holds it too much heat in combonation with the coating thus warping the metal under the coating! when it warps the metal moves...obviously. think of the hood of a car or any other painted part of a car. the part being the steel and the paint being the coating. well if the car gets hit the metal moves and the paint cracks where its been hit. and it comes off.

Well the same thing can happen to the headers under EXTREME CONDIDTIONS! meaning Very VERY hott temps! It is very rare and would only happen if your car was running hott or run for a long harsh period of time...say as a 24 hr race. The headers warp and the Ceramic can crack off of the headers but this is slowly and over time. It has nothing to do with the quality of the ceramic or the ceramic itself! jsut the extreme heat and the headers warping. Its usually un detectable by the human eye. But if you just have ceramic coating and are a normal daily driver or even a racer you have nothing to worry about!
If the ceramic coating cracks because of the steel headers warping, then the steel is exposed under it! As we know when steel is in contact with water over a peroid of time it will form rust.
the heat wrap can hold mositure agianst the headers as well as over insulate them. But you are right heat wrap can help on normal headers but on coated it can make it to a point of diminishing return for heat blocked vs header warp.

even though the ceramic coating is 2/100 of an inch thick inner and 2/100 thick on the outter its a heck on an insulant given its thinkness vs insulant capacity!

your friend
Sean

hope this helps!
