Default Muffler Eiminators with one cat??

I'm replacing my front Y-pipe and main cat on the '87 with the kit from Eckler's with no pre-cats (still will have main cat). I currently have the Dynomax Super Turbos and am considering muffler eliminators. How bad will this be? I want more sound than I have now but I haven't heard what the Super Turbos will sound like with the new cat and no pre-cats yet either. I'm just not sure I want to wait until spring to find out and THEN possibly have to install the eliminators. This stuff makes for a good winter project.

Thanks, all!

from the L98s I have heard, the central cat is very good at muffling sound. That and the nature of a central pipe seems to make things much mellower than true duals.

Go for it!

Default My 1990 had....

My 1990 had the precats removed and the original main cat in place. I went to a local muffler shop to have the mufflers replaced with through pipes. It came to $80 with dual chrome tips on each side so it looked stock. The muffler guy, after installing the straight throughs stated, "That's not near as loud as I thought it'd be." It kind of sounded like a big block boat at least to me.

On the flip side, though it sounded cool, I lost some bottom end and it moved the performance up the RPM range a bit. It did cut a little time off of my 1/4 so there may have been a HP increase but I couldn't feel a difference. It did sound cool though.

Thanks, guys! I did wonder about the loss of low-end grunt with the eliminators too. Thanks for pointing that out, VAHROOM! I do hate to give any of that up. Guess the only way I'll find out is to try them, eh?

I have this exact same kit on my 88 It doesn't have a low rumble it has more of a growl. I love it very crisp. Not to loud. The dynomax cat does a good job of keeping it drivable

88421, do you have the eliminators from Mid America or something else? If they are from MA, could you post a photo? I'd like to see how these look on a car. Thanks!

there is a kit in ecklers which gives you the front and rear y pipes with no cats on at all, all you need is the muffler or muffler eliminators. i think its like 250$ bucks, supposed to add some real HP
