ok all u vette guru's, i have an 87, 4+3...when i take off in my car, or when i put the tourque to it while moving slow, i seem to get this clicking noise from the driverside rear, and when i accelerate, while turning i seem to get a whinning noise from the same area...any help on what to look for or same experiences will be cool...thanks Joe
i think i had same problem ? there is a oil slinger that diverts the fluid away from the bearing. that fell off and was loose on pinion. that was my understanding anyway. they pressed on a new one and all was well. however the labor to disassemble was not pretty.
I had the exact same symptoms in my 87.
I replaced a wheel bearing and the U-joints and it was fixed.
The problem was only one u-joint but while I had it apart...
You would get a much better response in tech/perf.
I forgot one other thing. I would get a vibration at high speeds (over 100mph) as well.
I have a 93'. It sounds like a u-joint on the drivers side drive shaft. I to had vibration at 70 mph. I took it apart and sure enough one joint was dry. Replaced both of them though. This took care of the problem. A decent machanic can hear the noise and know if it is a u-joint. Hope this helps.
