Default LT1 Cam Do I need to replace

I am rebuilding my 1992 LT1 after 70,000 miles as to redue prior to starting Auto X. If you were me would you purchase a new stock lt1 cam or do the cams not wear out. There is no visible sign of wear or cracking.

It's fine. If it was bad, you'd know it from looking at it. It's extremely rare for a billet factory roller cam to go bad.

Default stock stamped rockers

Thanks. How about the stock stamped rockers? Do they wear out?

They do wear and the wear would be fairly obvious. They are cheap to replace by the set. An alternative would be to replace them with the Comp roller tip rocker arms or for more money the Comp Pro Magnum true roller rockers.

If you are planning any performance enhancements now is the time. Also you may consider changing the cam out to a late model cam that would allow you to use the late model Opti spark. At the same time should you choose to do this, you would have to get a late model 95 and up timing cover. If you get a 96 and later LT1 timing cover you would have to plug the crank sensor hole at the bottom of the cover with a freeze plug. And you will need to install a 95 and up timing chain and sprocket assembly.

Thanks. I am running in the SCCA BSP Class so changing factory stuff cannot be done. I am in the process of rebuilding the engine, so I am trying to replace any wearable items. So far everything is wearable.

Ahh I see, well if you have to use OE style parts then. Crane or Comp and for that matter Elgin makes some very high quality OE stamped rocker arms for the replacement. Unless the cam is pitted or shows obvious wear its probably OK. I would consider replacing the lifters, as you can't tell if one of them is about to scatter its little needle bearings out. OE lifters are pretty reasonable to replace.

At 70,000 miles your stock cam and rocker arms should be fine. But, if you really want to replace them, I have a 15k Lt1 camshaft and rocker arms that I would be willing to sell.

How much are you looking to get for the camshaft and rocker arms?
