Default '91 muffler tips?

after searching for aftermarket mufflers (I like flowmasters) for my L98 i can only find the ones with 2 tips on each side. but I have the newer body style which has the large single rectangular tip on each side. are there any aftermarket companies making the flowmasters w/ the rectangle tip? if not how would I keep that look and still have the flowmasters? would the '92-'96 mufflers fit?
THANKS

are you looking to go louder? how do the borlas sound compared to stock? do you mind telling me what you paid? I saw on the ecklers web site they go for about 500-600 bucks.

Thanks for responding
According to these part #'s mine should be the dual tips, but it came factory w/ the Lt1 style tips that's what I don't understand.
can I replace them w/ the 92-96 part #?
Does this make sense?
I wish I knew how to show a pic of my car here

Simple.............buy yourself a pair of offset-inlet/center-outlet Flowmasters (or any muffler of your choice) and put whatever tip you want on them.

What are you talking about? 1991 model (last L98 year) came with 2 round tips like all L98's did. LT1's came with those rectangular tips - that is why they are called LT1 tips And LT1 was introduced in 1992 model.

Trust me this is a fact.

PS. Bubba, does it say ASR in the light switch panel of your car? Have you polished your wheels? Your photos are out of focus but the wheels are too shiny to be stock '91 wheels. Are the spokes on the wheels round or do they have a flat spot in the middle? What is the 9th letter in your VIN? You get where I going with this?

And the 92 and later mufflers had a single opening from the muffler can into the rectangular tip. This was a formed piece and was painted black.

Default Go to your favorite muffler shop......

Any local muffler shop can weld any tip to your muffler and will install/weld your muffler to your pipe. Should be a simple and cheap job.

I stand corrected... Thanks for clearing that up for me. I guess whoever owned the car before me must have put the rectangle tips on...Who knew? It gets me thinking of what else they did to it.
I know it already had aftermarket plug wires and a K&N filter. Thats about as much as I can tell. The wheels are not polished, just real clean and the sun was hitting them just right. Thanks again :o

No problem.

Also note that 1991 has unique exhaust compared to other L98 cars. Some catalogues reflect this and some dont. I have no clue what the difference is but it must be something really minor as they all should fit pretty decently.

Here is an example of this, a different part # for 1991: http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=3.119.960

BTW: if your current mufflers are in need of replacement, here is an inexpensive LT-1 look option: http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=3.119.990

Or...you could have '93 wheels (maybe '92 too?) which have flat unpainted center and spokes from factory?

I have a set of both and the '93 wheels are much brighter than the '91 wheels. The '93 wheels only have paint on the round part of the spoke where '91 wheels are all painted exept the outer edge which has only clear coat on it.

Next time you change tires measure the width of the wheels (check first inside of wheels, there might be markings too). I think 92 and/or 93 cars came with 8.5" fronts and 9.5" rears. This I am sure of: 1991 wheels are all 9.5" wide. You would not want to put the narrow wheels to rear by accident.

Not to butt in, but I just had a pair of Flowmaster Super 40's put on my '92, and had them reinstall the LT-1 tips. Can't hardly tell it from factory except for the sound.

The '92's also have 9.5" wide wheels. '93 up have 8.5" front & 9.5" rear. Don't know why they did this, but they did.

My tire sizes are 255/45/17(front) & 285/40/17(back). Are these factory sizes for the 93'-up? Could I put the same size tires on all fours if my front wheels are 8.5 and the rears are 9.5?
Is there anyway to find out who owned the car before me? I got it from a car lot. I would love to know what all they did to it.
Like what if I put a 52mm TB on it but that mod was already done, man that would ba a waste of time and money. I am sure this is a common question with any used car.

The super 40's seem to be the way to go and I like that they are already black. They will match not only my tips but my taste in the sound, but it will have to wait until I get my sound system finished.
I just got some 8" subs from Shroregasm (thanks).

Yes they are. Stock size for '91 is 275/40/17 all around. IMO you can put that size into front too if you wish even if your front wheels are just 8.5".

Please check what is the 9th digit in your VIN, just to be sure. It should be letter M.

Only way to properly check what is installed into your car is to check by yourself. BTW. 52mm TB is vaste of money unless your engine is heavily modified or a stroker.
