Ok, Ok , Ok not to beat a deat horse but I still have a few questions.
The reconstruction has begun.
Ok. I have the headers back from being armor coated and the new engine should be done soon. The O2 Sensor bung was welded approx. 2.5 inches from the bottum of the long tube headers ( all 4 tubes would be running together at this point). My question is do I need a heated 02 sensor with this set up, and if so will the wires be long enough?
If the O2 sensor position is farther from the exhaust ports than usual you may need a heated O2 sensor.
If the wire isn't long enough you can splice into the wire from the ECM to the connector. If you get a 3-wire heate O2 sensor, you will then need to connect to a switched source of +12Vdc and Gnd.
BTW, what part of OH are you located in? I'm planning on driving the Vette (couldn't get the IROC ready in time) from lower NY to Richfield on Fri (between snow stroms, of course).
I am in Greenville, (west-central part, 10 miles from Indiana and 10 miles North of I-70).
Not real sure of the track of this storm, BUT
Right now we have 10" going for upwards of 18" by lunch tomorrow.
Then it is supposed to get VERY cold for the weekend.(-5 here on Saturday)
Richfield is in the Cleveland area, where they are use to, and can handle a serious snowfall better than the rural area I live in.
By armor coated I assume you mean Ceramic coating correct..if so the exhaust gas should stay hotter a longer way down the plumming..thus you may be able to get away with the single wire non-heated O2 sensor... I'd try it out before I went throught the trouble and cost of installing the heated sensors.
If you have a ZF 6 speed car, consider putting the sensor in the passenger side collector. You will have to make an extension wire. There is way more room over there(no slave cylinder).
If have hooker headers, see how the #8 rear hole is slotted? Sot the #7 rear hole the same way.

Take the time and run a heated O2 sensor. I ran headers for over a year without them before I actually realized how badly I needed them. A specific combination of events had to occur, but when it did the car ran like complete crap. After I installed the heated sensors the car runs perfectly.
