Default My new 406 is wounded!

I spun a rod bearing in my newly built 406!! It appears my camshaft stop for my roller cam came apart after 3000 miles and one of the rollers managed to get through my oil filter (probably on cold start, filter bypass) and into the number 1 and 2 rod bearings. Whatever the cause, the number 1 and 2 rod bearings spun and my Callies crank and Eagle h-beam rods took a beating. I guess this gives me another opportunity to build the engine to acheive my goal of 400 RWHP and 450 RWTQ.

In general I am not too upset with the spun bearings because the damage does appear minor and I can now make some changes for more power.

Dang, sorry to hear that,,, sounds like you may need to grind the crank. If not I just changed my main & rod bearings in the car last weekend so it can be done.

You gonna port the heads or did you already? I'm changing my 406 to a Superram but I only have 385 RWHP now

Oh man, sorry to hear this......but you're taking it well. What kind of thrust button did you use, or was it a torrington bearing?

When I built my engine I pluged off the filter bypass just for this reason...

Sorry to hear it. Seems like there's been alot of posts lately about spun rod bearings, happened to me once, but that was in a C2.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hope you get it up and running soon.

My $.02 though, if you didnt achieve 400+ rWHP and 450 rWTQ on a 406, then somethings wrong.

Sometimes this is easier said than done on he first go around. I did not read which intake he used but most peopel are so afraid of going 'radical" like I was that I "under sized " the cam.

I missed on my first build, ended up with 355RWHP 385 RWTQ beacause the cam was too mild for a Miniram, but when you go to the TPIS sight you see a cam that they recommend and it was virutally the same or at least it appeared to be. Lesson learned, at least 236 Intake duration on the miniram and I belive a Solid Rolelr is preferred.

This is part of the reason I am going to a Superram, the 233/233 Hyd Roller will be a better match for the SR for sure, its not too far off only slightly larger than the LPE 219. Although my 210CC heads are a little larger than what most people use (195's).

I have learned one he!! of a lot in the past 2 years, LOL

Hole-shot I did run at the track and on a 80 degree day I ended up running a 11.70 at 114.2 MPH. My dyno numbers were 353 rwhp @ 5500 rpm and 414 rwtq @ 2800 rpm.

The 400 rwhp goal and 450 rwtq that I have mean I will need around 500 hp at the crank and 560 ft/lbs of torque at the crank. Those numbers are possible to obtain but they are not easy to obtain in a every day driven street vette. I am running the superram intake and the ZZ-409 cam (226, 226 at .050 and .520 lift, I am running 1.6 rockers) and maybe I undercammed the engine? The extremely low peak TQ rpm point makes me believe I could use more cam but the 5500 to 5800 RPM of max HP appears to be correct for the superram intake. Does anyone have a cam choice that will acheive my goals?

Thanks

How about the solid cam that Corkvette & 85vet are running??
