Default Drag Racing Safety Question...

Question for you guys running 11.99 or quicker with a ZF 6 speed:

What (if anything) are you using to protect against the possibility of the clutch coming apart? Will a transmission blanket pass NHRA safety inspection? What blanket are you using? Any input would be greatly appreciated - thanks!!

Blankets are for automatics. NHRA mandates an SFI flywheel, and clutch at 11.49. At 11.99 you need an SFI approved flywheel shield.

Sure I could use them, wish I would have known I was out cruising today.

Since I have an auto, I've never looked. If I were looking, I'd start with the usual suspects, Summit, Jegs, etc. Someone HAS to be making them.

Exotic Muscle sells a kevlar blanket that fits over the bellhousing, and is approved. And oh yeah ... There is no way that the stock 2 piece huge iron flywheel is safe or approved (can you imagine the devastation if one of those let go!) ... It's got to go in favor of a single mass steel or aluminum SFI approved flwheel. And also ... you need to change more than just the flywheel ... There is no way that the Valeo pressure plate is even close to meeting SFI standards (due to the huge iron ring used in them) , nor will the typical aftermarket clutches that usually use the Valeo pressure plates with a heavier spring .

I THINK you can get all of it from Exotic Muscle. They may source a part that you can get from Summit, but I remembered seeing stuff like this when browsing their site in the past.

It may be a longshot, but have you tried Lakewood?
Good question, BTW

Those EM ZF specific blankets look like the ticket.
I have been using a $80.00 RCI one. It isn't exactly the best fit but I made it fit. So far the techs at the tracks I have gone to haven't even asked about it.
