Interesting. Looking at their shipping weights, it sounds like the LT5 has the exhaust manifolds on it and the L98 does not? That right there might account for the difference.

Too bad it doesn't say how much the TPI intake weighs? Also for stuff with a multiple number, is that the weight of each? Does each cam weigh 20 lbs, or are all 4 20 lbs?

4 @ 5lbs ea for total of 20 lbs.

Also look at the weight betwen the block and then the cylinder heads.

The Mike Antonick book Corvete Specs 1984-1996 lists component and shipping weights of most of the C-4 models.

Shipping weights for 1990:
L-98 coupe (auto): 3255lbs Dressed engine weight (dry): 557lbs
ZR-1: 3479lbs Dressed engine weight (dry): 596lbs

Shipping weights for 1994:
LT1 coupe (auto): 3309lbs Dressed engine weight (dry): 635.6lbs (manual) 753.6lbs (auto)
ZR-1: 3521lbs Dressed engine weight (dry): 753.6
These figures must include the weight of the transmission though it doesn't state that specifically.

Hope all this helps.

Really??? Guess you'd better email Mike Antonick or perhaps the publisher. I can only quote what's written in the book. That's the only source of that data that I have.

If this helps settle any debates

An LT5 minus flywheel and accessories strapped to a wooden pallet is 605 lbs. Guessing the pallet is about 25-30ish lbs.

It is noticeably heavier than a SBC. It took 3 of us to heave it in the back of my truck which was NOT a good idea, we almost dropped it.
Holy cr4p that mother is heavy!

Myself and one other guy can toss a complete SBC in the truck with no problem.

it's ez to figure out when you compare the lt5 parts list with that of the sb chevy all dem little geezmos weigh alot, and even though the
lt5 is alum, there are quite a few heavy duty parts in there that weigh a ton.

the best discussion I saw about this was in dave m's book about going to the c5, the decision of a lighter more cheap and efficient small block meant the death of the lt5 plus the packaging considerations, the lt5 is big too.

the lt5 is a heavy @ss engine, but it pulls its own IMHO

If you look at the dates on my post I already fixed my MISTAKE a day before you asked your question. Can you spell TYPO?

458 for the ls7?

I knew it was light, but thats amazing for the displacement. I weighed my C6Z at nhra track hrp in baytown, tx, and it weighed 3115 with 1/4 tank gas

I'm confused, shouldn't the manual transmission combo be lighter than the automatic? Even if the auto is lighter, I have a hard time getting my head around it being 150lbs lighter.
