I'd go a little smaller on the cam. Either a stock Z06 cam on the small end or a 220-224 on the big end.
Either one will get you to 450, no problem. We'll just have to tune it down a little to stay around that level.

I have a non FI question for you Andy.
Like I saw on your Webpage, you offer AFR heads.

If I decide to stay on the NA route and order the AFR 205cc heads and some headers, would you send me a LS-1 edit file at no charge, too?

Are the AFR heads bolt ons, or will I need some more parts, especially to make the engine more reliable?

The AFR heads will bolt right on. I'd add hardened pushrods.
The AFR heads really like the 224-228 cam. I think I'd put that one in.
Yes I'll send you a file. No problem!

Thanks Andy.
Do they come with all installation parts required?
I definately dont want to add a torque converter, because I will never drag race the car.
Right now with the 224/224 cam my idle in D is at 700RPM.
With the 224/228 I think I have to go higher and then you have to step on the break all the time.
Or is it possible to set the idle to the same RPM's or even lower with the more aggresive cam?

Andy,

How is the Magnacharger install going on that 69 Camaro in your shop? What are the chances for pick-up on Saturday the 11th?

Thanks,

We're working on it right now. The blower will be on tomorrow. We may have to machine up some custom bracketry for the pulleys. I'll know by about noon tomorrow. Call me.

Default Radiator Shroud and Hi-Output Fans

Andy,

Do you sell a radiator shroud and high-output electric fans that will work with the Ron Davis radiator with oil cooler?

Also, is there anything different about the Evans water pump set-up for an 8-rib versus a 6-rib. It seems that both belts just ride on the cylindrical drum, but I read a post recently where someone mentioned a different pump for 8-rib applications.

On a related note, I know you said that you use the Evans pumps on your high HP applications. Have you had any problems with the pump being destroyed from belt tension? I heard about this issue from ECS and they use the Meziere EWP because it has a dual-bearing set up. I am debating whether to use the Meziere that I have or invest in the Evans. I am reluctant to use the Meziere because I heard that it only flows 22 GPM and my engine could be damaged by excessive heat like HIGHRPM's. I am reluctant to use the Evans or stock pump because I heard cases of pump destruction from belt tension. I guess a pump failure would be better than an engine failure. A stock LS1 pump was just destroyed yesterday on the dyno (F1C with ECS brackets and pulleys). Comments?

My set-up is 402 / AFr 225 heads w/ F1R.

Thanks,

Sean

Andy

Install question since I am going to start this weekend with the hard parts, thanks for getting them out btw.

Is it easier overall on the install as a whole to remove the hood?

OK First of all, sorry about the delay. I've been sick for a couple of days.
hpcubed: The party starts around 8 AM. Last year I had a line at the gate by then.

R6_C5_ML430 : I have Spal high output fans. Just bolt them to a '97 style factory shroud. The Evans pump works with the 6 or 8 rib just fine. I've broken a few alternator/ power steering brackets ( just replace it with GMs updated style) but never had a water pump problem with stock or Evans. I agree with the Meziere comment. They're great for cooling at lower speeds but I wouldn't want to push one real hard. Not enough flow at higher RPM.

Brian Lazer 84: It may be a little easier but I never take the hoods off at the shop. There's too much risk of damaging one. If I were doing one at home, I'd probably take it off , though.

Andy,

Am I correct in thinking that the 90o rubber elbows towards the IC need to be trimmed or do they just butt together?

Should the IC be rough mounted first so the rubber lengths are correct?

Hey Andy I'm looking to go with a kit this summer. I don't have a forged bottom end yet but eventually I plan on having it done with heads and cam. I want the most hp possible. I would like to be able to run 9 seconds eventually. Now I've talked to ECS before and they recommended the D-1 and told me if I wanted I could switch to the
F-1 later. Plus now I see some people that had the D-1's are now switching to Twin Turbos. So my question is what set-up do you think would be best for me?

Hi Andy, and forgive me if some of these questions have already been answered, but I didn't feel like sifting through 5 pages of posts.

I've got the stock ATI kit, a D1, with your bracket.

aa) I'm getting ready to purchase your Stage 1 kit and was wondering how long I could expect a reputable shop (MTI) to install it. They installed their first A&A bracket on my car and I think it threw them for a loop- allthough they finally did a great job. I called them today and they said they would just "bill me by the hour" since they had never seen your kit before. That's a scary thought

bb) Is the kit made so that I can install it on jack stands, or do I need a lift (If I decide to do it with a wrenching buddy, which is very likely.)

cc) I'll be installing the ECS alky injection kit at the same time- What kind of numbers do you see with this set-up on a relatively conservative tune? I've got all the fuel support I need- 60lb MotoTrons, BAP, Racetronix, full exhaust, etc...A-4 with a stock bottom end. Let's assume I want to run 8psi??

dd) I have a ton of tools- are there any special ones that I'll need?

ee) When you moving to Houston so we have a "blower" specialist in "H" town?

Thanks a million for your time-

Jason

The elbows can be trimmed as needed. I sort of mock everything up and trim as necessary. I did see your pictures. You should bend the brackets and move the intercooler forward at the bottom just a bit. It will allow for better airflow.

EL DIABLO: If you're going forged, I'd put a D1 on it. That is fine for most mortal men!

Busa196: MTI? I was there a few weeks ago and they had 3 cars there with my system. They know how to do them.
It would be LOT easier on a lift. I know guys who've done it on stands but...
At 8PSI you won't need all those extras.
No special tools other than a big impact gun for the balancer bolt.
I bought a house north of Houston in "The Woodlands" but have no intention of moving there. Your weather just sucks!!

I'll just stay right where I am thanks.

Hey Andy, I emailed you earlier today, just wanted to get an update on the status of your C6 procharger kit. Do you have to make many changes from your C5 kit? I saw that MDMC has a nice looking kit (quite prices though) they claim that tuning the c6 is the toughest part. What has been your experience.

The bracket is different. The blower can mount higher.
So far tuning hasn't been a problem. I've had LS2 Edit for quite a while. Idle parameters aren't all there, but the PE, timing, MAF etc. are all there.
It'll be a while before I get going with the Procharger. I'm busy with the twin turbo and other projects.
