Default TTix vs LPE

Hello all....I am new to the forum and I need help with a crucial
situation. I have a '00 6spd and I am looking to add
Twins. I have narrowed my choices to TTix and LPE 550 package.
Prices are fairly similar when it is all said and done. I like the
"pedigree" of LPE. However, I like the power potential of the
TTix. I would like hear pros and cons as well as suggestions.

My personal opinion: LPE is geared more towards you not having to worry about it or do anything for that matter. They put it on and tune it, you drive it and take it back if something goes wrong. TTi is more DIY. You can't really "take it back" if something screws up. Either way, both setups are amazing. I doubt you could really go wrong either way.

Really depends where in the country you are. If you are anywhere near either LPE shop (LPE in Indiana or 21st Century Muscle cars in Dallas) I would go to them in a second but if you are far away but near a good C5 tuner who has experience with the TTi kit you can go there. Where are you from and we can give some some better options on where to bring your car.

LPE has high priority in refinement for their standard street pkgs. This means their NA pkgs. may not offer as much power as some rival tuners due mainly to cam specs I guess. But with F.I., they can achieve their refinement target all while achieving insane performance.

A July 2001 test in Car and Driver of an earlier 550 TT pkg. in an FRC got 11.5 @ 133 mph skipping 2nd gear on OEM tires. I think DJ Self got 131 mph traps on pump gas with his automatic C5 back in his 550TT days. There's a vid on LPE's website of a 550TT FRC doing 139.x mph traps, presumably with race fuel and boost turned up. Highest trap on a 550TT pkg. I heard was 142 mph also with boost turned up.

Factor in the resale value, warranty when untampered, and mystique of an "LPE twin turbo Vette" well...

It is the 500TT package, not 550. There is a 550 package coming soon. The car that went 139 (in the 10s) was a 650TT package.

the LPE kit gives you around 500rwhp right?

if u are sticking with the stock motor, i might consider the lpe kit for its realiability etc but the TTi has way more power potential for the money

I am confused how the prices are simular???

LPE 5550TT = 22,995.00 + fuel system upgrade for 03+ 2-3k
TTiX Would be around 12k installed

That still leaves around 10k on the table......thats enough money for a fully forged and installed motor. The LPE TT is awesome for resale and reliability and warranty.
The TTiX will let you turn up the power a lot more than 500rwhp.

Jon

I guess I will throw my 2 cents in on this one seeing as I have dealt with both. The main question is between the TTix and LPE TT. The LPE package is a much more refined package in relation to design and efficiency. The TTix is gear more towards a do it yourself person, but still a lot of work on the install. The LPE package can be upgraded to 1000HP without many changes besides fueling and turbo cartridge upgrade. Both are a snug fit due to the C5 engine bay, but the LPE is much cleaner. Also the LPE kit uses a better turbo cartridge in my opinion as it is liquid cooled via coolant as well as oil lubricated.

On the pricing side, the LPE 550HP TT is on sale for $18,500 and also includes upgraded heads and cam as well as a 2 year, 24K mile warranty. I believe the TTix installed would be slightly more then the $12K quoted here and that does not include and heads and cam upgrade. By the time all the necessary work is needed with the TTix and add a set of good heads and cam you will be in the same ball park price wise and most likely no warranty.

What Chris brings up is a good point as far as your location to the builder and in LPE's case they are in Indiana and Texas which gives a decent coverage for a good part of the country. Of course location convience is definitely different in perception to different folks. I know in my shops case a lot of folks from out of the southeast area plan vacations to the Florida area to coordinate things in relation to upgrades.

Hope this helps.

Very well put! It is the 600 package they're coming out with soon - as my rolly-eyed friend so aptly tried to point out - now if he could only get the intercooler off the damn exhaust manifolds.

Very well stated, it appears that most people forgot to add in Heads and Cam, Complete Fuel System parts, Tuning, Full Install, and the other little stuff that LPE offers with kit (guage pod etc.). $18.5 K not too bad a deal considering everything..I think it should at least be making 550rwhp though.

I would like to throw in there that I would not hesitate to own either setup...with the exception that both bother me at their limited tire size for the front..but that is not really too big a deal...but neither them offer this on a 346cid yet. See below.

DJ made a lot more than that through an automatic on a 346.

For a daily driver, I bet you'd be hard pressed to get the blend of power and stock-like drivability that LPE offers from anywhere else. Everyone knows that LPE has tuning capabilities that most shops don't -- so you end up with a powerful, and very streetable package that behaves just like a stock C5/Z06 until you mash the go pedal. Also, you get the benefit that someone who's installed a BUNCH of their kits is working on your car, and knows every last detail of the install.

If you're looking for more power, there's no doubt that the TTiX will get you there. $2K for an install with the motor still in the car may be a little bit on the light side for your average shop -- but, if do a forged 346 at the same time, I'm almost certain you could get the motor, TT kit, heads, and cam installed for right around the same price as the LPE kit (and with more power). Your mileage may vary depending on who installs the kit, of course.

BTW, the TTiX does have a warranty, but I don't think it covers labor. For me that's OK since I installed the bulk of my kit myself in my garage, so I could swap a faulty turbo or manifold without a problem.

What does that have to do with our discussion? He had a 427 TT.. The discussion is TTi Stage X vs. LPE 550 TT.

Just as an FYI - heads and cam are only about $1,500 extra when you do a TT install (as everything has to come apart anyway).

Also - don't forget to factor in exhaust and drive line upgrades. $3-6K for drive line upgrades (clutch, strut brace, hardened output shafts, etc) would be a fair baseline.

Cheers,

Mark

TTi here also . Good bang for the buck when considering twin kits . Good luck in your choice.

Dan

Comparing the TTi and the LPE in the same thread says alot as to how much the TT market has opened up the past few years. If you are into doing your own work and want a system that can take you anywhere from 550rwhp to way over 800rwhp on 346 cid and like to do your own work or if you have a good local shop/tuner you use and like to play with the setup I think the TTi is without a question the way to go.

On the other hand if you just like to put gas and oil in the car want to keep the power to 550 with a 24 month warranty than LPE should be seriously considered. Remember turn up the boost on the LPE and the warranty goes Bye Bye, The TTi kit does cover all kit parts for 2 years if installed by a dealer and 1 year on parts if its a DIY but my guess in my past dealings with George is that he is going to stand behind the product and always do the right thing.

OBTW mid 130mph 1/4 mile mph times through a A4 are easy to get with the TTi Stage X, heads and cam @ 13#'s of boost. I will report back with new times shortly with the boost @15-16#'s on pump gas spraying meth. High 130's - low 140's should be reached if I can get a Trans and Rear end to stay together.

Good Luck Both are great choices
