I did that at first. Ended up spending a fortune for crappy work. Now I do all the work myself except for a few things like balancing the rotating assembly. Just do not have the tools certain jobs.
I get a lot of satification in doing the job myself and knowing that it was done right the first time.

hey, i am a perfect example! i have taken my car to shops on this board and well...

It's all me! I have a few friends that help out from time to time. I'll try anything and if I get in 2 deep.. This forum usually saves my butt. The Corvette Forum is the best tool for my Corvette.

It depends on what it is. I designed/designing my own mods, but certain things I will pay for. It comes down to PITA factor and equipment availability. Certain things can be done by shade tree mechanic while others can’t. It comes down to your comfort level ultimately.
So far ive done modding on my prevous car but nothing mechanical to mine yet. i installed B&B's on my friends Z06, but nothing too crazy on mine yet. im going to run full speed into a wall installing my STS TT kit weekend after thanksgiving with the help of a friendly forum member or 2.
