Default Catchcan setup on LS-1 engine

I've searched some threads on setting up a catchcan system for my '99 LS-1 Vette for when I install my STS twin turbo system, but I am still confused at to what I actually need to install it, and how to install a system? I figure I need a catchcan and a check valve (I guess the McMaster valve from other threads works good), but what else? Do I need a seperator? What is it, what does it do, and where does it go? Does anyone have a good link to a thread or a website that details how to set up a catchcan system for FI on a LS-1 engine? In what order do the parts get connected, and to what connections do they go? Please chime-in if you can help.
Thank you very much and God bless.
Sincerely,
Chris

Chris,

I was putting together a PM to answer you but you beat me to it here. We use many of the Weapon Can:

[IMG][/IMG]

I can get you into this for about $55-60 shipped and the McMaster PN# is: 7775 K52 (Brass spring loaded piston check valve, 1/4" Dryseal femail, viton seat)

Home depot can supply the seperator and needed fittings (brass barbed etc...)

Email me for more info:

Addition to above:

I have gotten a few emails about putting a low cost FI catch can solution system for our FI C5's including everything such as fittings, lines, seperator and check valve and enough hose to plumb it pretty much where ever you want.

What do you guys think?

Brian

I bought the McMasters check valve last week. Does anyone notice it takes a lot to open the valve by blowing through it? I ordered #7775K52

Brian,

Yes, I would be interested in a complete system at a good price. Keep us updated with what you come up with.

Also, what does the seperator do? I figure the catch can "catches the oil" and keeps it in the "can" until you empty it or drain it. And I figure the check valve keeps the gases from reversing in the system when there is boost. But what is the seperator for?

Thank agian,
Chris

Going to start off with 5 packages. Today I got the check valves and should have the cans in the next week or so. Hose is here and I will get the rest of the materials this weekend.

I will include enough hose to mount the can within reason.

If you do the type of install I did, you will not need any special tools or jacks etc... All done from the top.

THIS SYSTEM WILL REPLACE YOU PCV SETUP. I just want to make that perfectly clear. I will update as the need arises.

Not sure yet and want to get a few built before making a price so if someone wants to get it right away, the box could be in UPS's hands that night etc...

Brian,

Three questions I have.

The first, you say this replaces the PCV setup. Does this mean that you intend this to replace the PCV valve also. I'm pretty sure that you want to keep your PCV valve in the system, because that is also the "air flow meter" that allows the vucuum to suck a pre-determined volume of cranckase air.

The second question is what will you be including in these kits. I'm assuming that you will have the catchcan, a CH seperator, an inline check valve (McMaster vlave) and hoses and clamps. Additionally, since my engine is an LS-1 will you also be supplying an additional "mesh-screened fuel filter" or something of the like to put in the line that goes from the throttle body port to the front port on the passenger side valve cover. Also, will a check valve be needed in this line for boosted engines?

Lastly, will you be including any breathers for the system? From my research, it seems to be recommended for when you have boost, and the crankcase becomes pressurized. The best solution I read, at least in my opinion so far, was to add a "T" fitting right before where the PCV line goes into the check valve that goes into the intake. From this T fitting, you add another check valve with a breather on the end of it. Then, under boost when your crankcase potentially pressurizes your PCV line, the pressure is relieved through this T fitting, through the check valve and through the breather. When not in boost, vucuum sucks air through the PCV line, but not through the breather because the check valve restricts flow that way.

Essentially, let me know what you will be offering in your kit.
Thanks again,
Chris

Doesn't the PCV valve itself act as a check valve, preventing pressurized intake air from going backwards into the crankcase?
