Default Thinking about switching setups

Just throwing this out there incase anyone is thinking along the same lines as me.

Lately I've been contemplating switching from the F1 procharged setup currently on my Z to a turbo setup. Now don't get me wrong, I love the charistics of a SC. Its kind of like driving around with a full bottle of n2o all the time. The powerband is very linear and the car is predictable and easy to drive (as you can see from the times in my sig).

For me its not really about the power because either setup will produce more then enough power to use on the streets or track. Its mainly that I don't care for all the attention I get when driving around. Everyone can tell the car is blown, I'm always getting people trying to race me and its starting to get annoying. Its almost like walking around with your d!ck out of your pants, everyone stops to look at you. So far to 'tone things down' I've put a set of cats on and some stock Ti mufflers but its still not enough to fool people into thinking its just stock. If this was just going to be a sunny day car or a weekend crusier I wouldn't mind as much and probably would like the attention.

My DD has a turbo and I think my driving style is better suited towards the charistics of a turbo. Its quite and stealthy during normal driving which I like but still able to make power when you put your foot down.

If anyone with a turbo car ever wondered if they like a SC better this might be the oppertuinity for you.

I don't want to do a rear mount setup so I'd really only be interested in either a big single or twin setup. If there is anyone that wants to move to a SC shot me an email and lets talk.

I think you're nuts... why have all that power and have the car drive/sound like stock.

It's rare that you get to really get in it on the street so 1/2 the fun is the noise and "toughness" of a modded car.

I installed my cam becuase it makes the car scream "BADASS" not becuase of the extra 40-50 rwhp.

My buddy got a cam and I just had to have one after driving his car. I'm and HPDE junkie so the 50 extra ponies could have been spend on brakes and track time, but again... it was all about the new personality it gave the car.

And... to continue your analogy... if I had a 12" dick... I may just want to walk around w/ it hanging out from time to time

all high hp turbo cars will produce high temps. its isnt specific to anyone kit....i know of a guy w/TTIX who was just resently on a cruise and blasted his car up to 140mph, his oil temps shot up to 260*

Sounds like turbo cars need a larger radiator and and external oil cooler.

Don't turn this into another SC vs. Turbo thread.

If you don't have anything to add to the topic at hand, don't add anything at all.

Default MY Take

I've been through both scenarios. D1 cammed, borlas etc Z06. Sounded nasty, just loved it. Power strong up top. Then I went to forged internals ttix kit, still sounded OK but power down low/mid range was nuts (good thing), still everyone wanted to race you.

Now have a C6, A6, vert, forged, ttix, cats, quiet, and is a REAL sleeper, and a blast at 1/2 throttle around town/highway. I'm really enjoying the stealth factor. It's not the ALL OUT beast as previous Z, but more than adequate.

Sounds like you're heading that way as well.

Thats exactly what I'm thinking.
I hope that someone will be tired of the 'stealthy-ness' of their turbo setup and want to start getting some attention.

I have to agree I really like the stealthy car with huge horsepower. Lower expectations and over deliver. What don't you like about your current setup. Is it the blower or the exhaust? Or both?

Good luck

In terms of power delivery and driveability there really isn't anything I dislike about my current setup. Its just that some people would prefer the muscle car sound and attention you get with a SC and some don't. I'm one of the ones that doesn't. It was fun at first, and still kind of is when I'm in the right mood, but right now I would rather have the steath of a turbo.

Heck, my GF won't even drive the car now cause she is scared of it. If it was turbo'ed she wouldn't even know that it wasn't stock.

Who knows what if anything will happen, I'll probably change my mind again next week. Maybe I should just buy another Z and turbo it so I can have the best of both worlds.

I've already received a few PM's asking me if I want to sell and the answer is no. I'm either going to switch with someone for a turbo or keep the car as is.

If you're a straight line kinda of guy, turbos are the way to go. If you like twisties, then centrifigal's are the way to go.

To really maximize the straight line performance of a turbo you need an auto trans. Since you have a stick, I think it would be a big investment to make the change.

Good luck with whatever direction you go.
