Default LPE TT Performs

Hey guys,

Just wanted to post about my twin turbo stage II++ 2000 coupe. I spent a day at Mosport yesterday - 9 hours of track time in total. For those of you who don't know about this track, it is one of the (if not 'the') fastest and most technically demanding tracks on the planet. Mario Andretti, among others, have said that it is by far the most challenging track he has ever driven/raced.

I took the twin turbo this day - I've had this car completed by LPE since 04/05 and mostly it has been a street driven, drag strip driven car.

Prep for the track: nothing.

Mods: LS6 block, fully forged rotating assembly, studded bottom end, studded heads, inconnel stainless valves, twin turbos, boost controller, 10 psi on springs. It makes 600 rwhp on springs, 730 rwhp on the boost controller. I never switch on the boost controller the entire day. It has LPE's external oil cooler as well. 4 piston brembos with drilled rotors all the way around, 19/18 front/rear HRE 5 spokes with Michelin pilot sports. Hardened output shafts, LPE mini-tub kit.

I beat the living **** out of this car all day long - was hitting 150 mph on the back straight and did it all day long. Not one issue with the car. Performed flawlessly all day. No performance loss with increased heat during the day, and no heat sink issues.

I saw Subarus breaking down, Porsches breaking down, Ferraris breaking down, Ford Mustangs, Corvettes etc etc - but my modified TT by LPE ate it all up, and asked for MORE!!! I'm extremely pleased with the performance - easily the fastest car on the track - drove it there, tracked it, drove it home, got 30 mpg to and from the track - slightly less mpg at the track!

Kudos go to LPE for producing such a high quality automobile. Tuning was bang on, and the brembos NEVER faded or gave issue while they hauled that sucker down from 150 mph time after time, all day long.

I left my active handling on, along with TC. It didn't hurt me at all, and even saved my gravy on one exit to the pit lane when I went out too hot. The active handling gathered up the car and set me straight. Another fellow with a Z06 turned his AH off, and put his car into the wall on the front straight.

Anyway - just wanted everyone to know that the LPE TT did extremely well and has proven to be completely reliable.

Very impressive! I would have thought for sure that even with the LPE oil cooler you would have encountered temperature issues at some point during nine hours. Where is the cooler positioned. What were your avg. and high temps?

Hence the Performance Engineering part of LPE. It really does make a difference when the person who owned the company was serious about the performance engineering of their product...you didn't quite do 24 hours of endurance racing but the fact that you put that much time on it at the track and had no issues is more then most will ever stress their setups, and speaks for itself.

I didn't get a shot of the Bentley Continental with the W12 Twin Turbo however (convertible too!) - what a massively huge car! The Gino's driving it had no clue how to drive and were sporting loafers on their feet (gotta look good!) and eventually left at noon as they were never allowed to go on track without an instructor, which frustrated them (the instructor waits till you have shown you are skilled enough at holding the line before they let you go solo). I got lots of pics of other cars with the 'ol iphone though - will post soon!

I was concerned about oil temps myself, as the turbos certainly heat things up! My cooler is mounted in the standard position behind the radiator, but down low in front of the crank pulley. I kept the oil temp on my DIC readout the entire day (only to be pre-empted by the damn tire pressure warnings that started firing across it when they hit 43 psi!) and on really heavy back to back to back lapping, my oil would hit a high of 275F, but never went over that mark. That is definitely hot, but I've seen higher in my ZR-1 (which has a small factory oil cooler) and definitely within normal limits for the oil itself.

What temps would you guys go with a cool down lap? 300? I've hit 300 in the ZR-1 without issue - isn't the oil stabile until something like 330?

Coolant temps were up to 240F at their absolute high.

Best part is that, other than a tad lower oil pressure at idle when the oil temps were up there, there was no hint that the car was being taxed. It still felt every bit as strong as the first lap when I was on my 20th consecutive lap, and then my mind started losing focus, so I would pit, and let her cool down a bit.

I'm thoroughly impressed with the performance of this machine - drove her again yesterday, and gave her a really nice bath. What a superb machine.

Thanks again to LPE for doing such a bang up job of putting together this amazing beast - I really truly appreciate everything they put into this package now.

Nice going Dwight! I've yet to have my blue beast on a roadcoarse, but maybe soon. Still want to hit a 10.0 / 9.9 this year though, first.
